bennie1 - 2015-01-20 1:43 PM Does anyone know what kind of hoops a producer would have to jump through to have an AQHA class at an existing 4D? Can it be run concurrently as a sidepot and earn points like a 'straight' barrel race? I'm assuming an AQHA approved judge would need to be paid to be there. I know it's been done, just how do you make it happen? Is it cost prohibitive?
They have the requirements for shows in the AQHA handbook- I haven't looked to see what they are. I'm thinking they have to sign off or approve it as well.  I would think a judge would have to officiate. Just guessing that would run $200-500. Rental fee for Roane State is $600 per 18 hour day. And I'm betting you have to have stall facilities, etc in order to have a show. It would be cheapest to have it during the circuit. That way you wouldn't have to foot all the costs.
Another thing you must think about is their bit, drug, and humane rules and I'm pretty sure you must have two judges because of these rules. As a producer you will not make any friends or get any money back, it will only hurt or completely take away your added money.
You could make money on your own but only if you did it at a super show level, not a local AQHA / monthly NBHA level.
Last year for NBHA to rent Harriman was $1200 mut have changed.

I remember it being $1200 as well but I don't know if that was for 2 day or 1 day?

AQHA is a train wreck. They do not want speed horses. I used to put ROM's on everything. Now the only AQHA we go to is Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, OH. We only run the Sweepstakes. You have to have their Judge's. Extremely expensive to do. With their bit rules, drug rules, general rules etc. you can get your self fined, expelled or put on probation . The easiest way to get and ROM is to find a trainer in Oklahoma to help you.
At Congress this year we ran both my horses in an O ring snaffle, no tie down, the bit rules are ridiculous. Look them up in the AQHA Rules.

Well if it's so ridiculous they shouldn't even have appendix papers and just give regulars. This is all very disheartening.

If you want to your R.O.M in AQHA, try going to the N.A.L.E in louisville KY. I have done this for SEVERAL mares. the amateur class is $ 75  which INCLUDES a stall. you can show in any ama class for one money.

There are NO shows in TN to get aqha points & its SUCKS.

between the N.A.I.L.E, the Dixies in Jackson,Ms. & Fort Worth, Tx. is where i get my R.O.M's and Superiors.  My home state has never helped or produced a SINGLE AQHA point.
( Stupid TN.)

The state of Tn does not want to help speed horses and its just plain WRONG I challenge them to correct this!!!!!! ha fat chance

You have to have 10 open points to get an ROM to change Appendix papers to regular. The Amateur or youth is no good. That is one reason you need to race Appendix horses to change them to full registry...

We have a few Open 4D / AQHA / KYQHA / NPHA shows around Louisville, KY. There is also a girl in Princeton IN that has them too. Kind of a neat idea. I am planning on trying to attend some this summer . I will try to attach a show bill for you to see how it is set up.

Why is amateur no good? My stud is 10 this year so probably not gonna get him entered in racing.

If you are serious about getting your stud full AQHA papers, and I hope you are so that the offspring won't be appendix registered, then you need to get him into an open class and if your not wanting to do this yourself then send him to someone who can get his ROM on him.  You will probably need to choose an AQHA person as no barrel trainer really wants any part of paying the entry fees, putting up with the drug rules, the bit rules, and the judges take on humane treatment.  I strongly recommend getting in with someone in the TNQHA to help you find the best shows where large entries are likely, get people to enter the class, and help you.

Below everything you need to do is outlined:

REG104.2 previously has been listed in the Appendix, and the following conditions are met: (1the horse has qualified for Register of Merit in AQHA-approved events not restricted in any way (youth and/or amateur Register of Merit do not qualify a horse for advancement); (2AQHA has received a signed statement from a licensed veterinarian certifying that the horse does not have a parrot mouth per REG109.1 and (3) if the horse is a stallion, AQHA has received a signed state- ment from a licensed veterinarian certifying it is not cryptorchid per REG109.2. Horses having parrot mouth, cryptorchidism, HYPP or excessive white markings are not eligible for advance- ment. When a horse is advanced, it is necessary to surrender the registration certificate before a Numbered certificate can be issued.
?REG104.3 was previously listed in the Appendix and attains a
registration number, any offspring listed in the Appendix shall on
that date become eligible for advancement to the Numbered
registry. Advancement of such offspring to the Numbered registry shall be on request from the record owner and accompanied by the Appendix registration certificate, or
REG104.4 was foaled in an international country having a Quarter Horse Association recog- nized by the AQHA that operates its own stud book; was issued a registration certificate by such international association; and which traces to a minimum of 93.75 percent (15/16) lineage to horses issued Numbered registration certificates by AQHA. To receive such Numbered certificate from AQHA, the horse’s owner must make application through the recognized international asso- ciation in the country he resides to supply AQHA all required proof of breeding and identification. Registration fee shall be $35, or $75 if owner does not have a current membership
