Vickie - 2015-04-03 4:35 AM This is what happens in "Right to Work" states like Wisconson is now.  Any employee can be let go for no reason.  I know I will get flamed for saying this but this is why we need unions.  It can't happen like this in a unionized workplace.

Flame suit on, fire away.

I need to be able to fire people. Sorry, some people suck at the job even if they show up reliably and have a good attitude.  This is one reason govt offices suck--they have a REALLY hard time firing people regardless of how much they deserve it.

I would put on the applications company restructuring.  When I look at applications, I usually look at the length of time there.  Then the reason.

When I call to verify employment, I make sure I have a signed release saying I can ask questions.  If the form is requested.  If someone calls me to verify employment, I will not give out any information unless I also receive a form from the former employee.  And, this also applies for current employees.  You never know when a crazy is calling so they can come to the workplace and blow everyone up because they don't like your employee.

And, I agree with Arion.   As an employer, I provide you with a safe working environment and the agreed upon terms, i.e., pay, benefits, vacation, time schedule.

Based upon the scenario you provided, I suspect you were fired out of retaliation. If these managers have a gravy train going, then you and others provided bad reviews, that puts their cushy deal in jeopardy. Retaliation is hard to prove, but I would bet that is actually the reason you were let go.

That's what I think too. I'm VERY close friends with some others in my department, some of which are still there, so they were able to give me info on the other suspicious firings at the same time as me.

I have a close family friend that got fired for giving a bad report/comment!! He had worked for this fortune 100 company for 14 years, always a top employee! A new vice president started working in a position just above his. The NEW vice-president would take other peoples work and pawn it off as his own, or ask an opinion before a meeting and again present it as his idea. After this went on for a while my friend complained that the new VP was a snake and taking the credit for other peoples work etc.....my friend got fired!! Two years after he was fired the "new" vice president was fired because someone with a brain finally figured out he WAS a snake but that didn't help my friend who had already lost his job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  You should just say the company down sized!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Never give a bad report about someone above you!!!!

Unions have festered into political machines to support the ones that support them from elected officials that give them exemptions like Obamacare etc etc.

Military keeps from paying retirements by attacking those that have 12-16 years of service by saying their work description is no longer needed.

Private companies will get rid of you before 10 years so you do not become fully invested in any type of matching funds or retirement programs.
They will also monitor ages of employees starting at 40 years old and deciding you are a higher cost to insurance plans or a liability to the company and put you on the to fire list for some unknown reason by an unknown accuser.

Getting rid of you before you reach 55 is also a major to dump you before your age is figured into the employee cost charts. When you see a new cost analysis or consultant hired .. you know heads are going to roll starting with the oldest and/or most loyal employees.

Also keep in mind that your management team all play golf, BBQ and kiss each other's butts whether at work or during weekends. .. If you look at the management chart you will see the head nerd ensures he hires people into management that will never challenge him for his job and this goes for top to bottom of the chart!!

Another also in your major companies is the management pay scales ............ a manager can become eligible for higher pay grades the more college grads he has in his department vs hourly people. .. you will see very qualified efficient techs getting fired and their amount of pay being used to hire more nerdy college grads in order to move that manager into a higher pay scale ... for instance.. manager becomes eligible for a higher pay scale for hiring 5 dummy college grads vs keeping his 8 capable experienced hourly people ... when things fall apart he just asks to hire more supervisors which puts his failures behind another brick wall .. same as Obama does ... has someone else to blame ..

The only dig you can get in is saying that they were reducing the work force due to a reduction in sales etc etc ...

Just keep in mind when interviewing the interviewer has the same reasoning powers as the bunch you just left ... so be charming, on time and short answers without any long explanations or negative statements about anything at your old company. Fake your interest in being hired in a lower job to get your foot in the door so you can move to another position once you are hired.

And for God's sake ... go clean up your FB pages before applying to any company!! and leave your cell phone in your car!! NO DISTRACTIONS!!!

Since you will be applying at several companies ... fill out one of the tuffer employment applications, (have a pre-written short cover letter or short resume' if required) and make a copy of it with all of your information on it to copy off of when filling out other apps at different companies. .. and fill out their application and return it the same day while in the area to save you time and gas monies. By being prepared your answers will be more concise and cover letter // resume' will be shorter and to the point.

Always research and look around the area for other companies and go fill out applications with them while you are in the area. Make your job hunt an all day job by applying several times in the same day!!

Psssst ... don't tell them you were training a new employee who evidently is now doing your old job ...

I'm curious about this. Based on that statement, when I, as an employer hire you I hire you for life? You know what you as an employee are entitled to? You are entitled to receive the agreed upon compensation for work done. Nothing else. Don't like that you say? Go find a job somewhere that you like better. It's your right.

Exactly.  As an employer, I can't begin to count the number of times employees cost me money because they simply decided to not show up for a shift or to quit without notice.  "Right to work" states don't allow me to go after them, nor do I see any groups villianize them as selfish or greedy.  It is their right to quit without notice, just as it is my right to terminate their employ...although doing so will likely cause my unemployment insurance to go up.  The pendulum swings both ways, as it should.

I'm a believer in Right to Work and would never join a union even after this experience. I don't want to start a political debate with this particular post.
