Location: on my horse | Good for your hubby and also for you for wearing a helmet. I used to be the only one at races or shows in one but now its starting to catch on a little bit. Last sunday there were two or three other girls plus me. |

Location: Texas | My friend's daughter had a really cool Troxel helmet on. It had leather on top of it.. really was nice. I tried it on and really liked it. It wasn't the big bulky western helmets I've seen in the past. |

| I just got the "OK" today from the neurologist to get back on a horse. I haven't ridden since November! Seriously people, wear a helmet, brain injuries can be so easily prevented sometimes! |

Location: Western Pa. |  I started wearing one this year, I only trail ride but am a senior and on medication that bumpimg my head of the ground woould be very bad. My daughter started wearing one this year. She has had some bad falls and after a bad experience this wnter decided to wear one. Her horse fell at the first barrel a few weeks ago. Her helmet had a mark on it from the barrel. If she hit hard enough to make a mark think about her head.
All my grandchildren must wear helmets when they ride. The first thing they say is where is my helmet. Good habit to get into. |

Location: NC | I had been mulling over the decision to wear one for about a year. I've always thought about it but never gone through with it. Not really for vanity reasons. Just never got around to getting out to a store to try different styles on and such.
Well this year I tried on my friends Tipperary and decided I liked it. Ordered mine and started wearing it. I've came off twice with it on already. The first time my hip took the brunt of the fall at my in laws arena in the packed sand. It took me a week just to walk alright. The second time I was the second one out after a big drag at a decent sized show. My gelding threw his 'hop hop spin' move on me in between the 1st and 2nd and off I came. Luckily I landed chest first so my boobs broke my fall. Lol.
I found out 3 weeks ago that I have an arachnoid cyst on my brain. It's benign but any decent amount of trauma could cause it to rupture and cause serious damage. It's in the posterior fossa region which is covered by my helmet. Im glad I started to wear a helmet this year. Now any fall could end up serious if it involves my head.
Scary stuff. But riding is no bigger a risk than driving or walking down the steps. especially for my clumsy self. |

My response was "Nope...found my common sense"
I like the English/jockey type helmets. Used to think Tony Pitcock was so cool in his "crash" helmet.

But I told him when wearing my helmet, that I felt dorky. He said, why would you feel dorky? Do you think NASCAR drivers feel dorky? He said no, they are being protected. Good thought for those that worry about how they look wearing a helmet and letting that be the only reason they are not wearing one. This is not a helmet debate-only made to encourage and look at it from a different perspective! Football players, baseball players, NASCAR drivers.. and the list goes on. They all wear them (yes, required) but they probably aren't overly concerned with looking like the odd man out (like I do)!
Also it was your husbands way of telling you that he loves you! |
