I traded this past fall for two geldings who I just got to a good weight. None of my saddles fit them so I'm in the search for a new saddle. I would really like a Caldwell or H3 but I can't find any used in my size(16 inch) so I'm looking more towards a mid-grade saddle. I've hear good things about the Team Steinhoff barrel saddles. I was just wondering what anyone thought about them? My geldings both have medium withers and one has some slight atrophy so I need something wide enough to let them keep filling out in the shoulder without tipping forward on or pinching behind their withers.

I didn't like mine. Made my horse and me both sore.

I have two, and love them. The newer ones flair in the front, and then the leather actually rolls out to keep it from pinching in behind their shoulders on atrophied withers. The 03 width in a flex tree is my favorite. My new Steinhoff has some rock to it and fits "curvy" backs with big shoulders well. My older one has a littlle straighter bar, and fits a horse without atrophy perfectly, or I can shim it to fit almost anything else. I train outside horses full-time, so I have a lot of horses in and out, and my Steinhoffs fit more horses than anything else I have/have tried (Martin, Slone, Double J, Allen Ranch, Master, Ammerman). There have been other threads on this, you might want to do a search.
