What does the process all include?
Someone would like an embryo from my mare, but I am in the middle of running her nearly every weekend right now. Would she need any time off? Are there any risks for her? Before I go through with it I will obviously discuss it further with a good repro vet, but would like to hear your opinions and experiences. It's not something that is really important for me to do, so if it is costing me quite a bit or can affect her I definitely won't do it.

There have been several posts on this topic lately so if you search the forum I am sure you will get a lot of information.
There are risks to doing ET just like any time you breed a mare.   They have to be palpated/ultrasounded and inseminated the same as if you were AIing her, and then again when they get the embryo out.  There is always risk to getting rectal tears anytime you are ultrasounding or lavaging a mare for any reason.
It's also expensive.  You can look at spending from $3000-5000 on the process and that doesn't include any of the stallion fees, or getting the semen to your mare.
We do all of our own repro work here including ET's and the mares that we are running get the week off in between the time they are inseminated and the time they are flushing.
Any stress (including running or hauling) that a mare is under can affect conception.
If you are considering doing it, I would be sure to go somwhere that they do a lot of them.

When I did my mare she only had 1 week off. You either short cycle or wait till they cycle and are ready to breed, then you order semen and AI her. Up to this point it's just like the normal breeding process. After your mare is hopefully bred for 7 days you go back and flush the embryo. That is the week I gave my horse off because I wanted to make sure she took. We flushed her on a Monday, I had 4 runs on her that fri-sun (bad planning on my part I know) she won a ton of money that weekend. So realistically you would prob be looking at 1 weekend out. Now that being said I live 20-30 min from the breeding facility and I kinda wish I would of just left my mare there start to finish, it is a lot of running back and forth, from start to finish I made 4-5 trips, I did leave her over night when they bred her. But the process goes pretty fast I think it was around 2 weeks from when we short cycled to when we flushed maybe a little longer. Some mares don't handle the short cycles very well, it didn't bother mine I ran her the day they bred her (before they bred her) and she felt really good. I would def have it worked who is going to pay for her going back and forth or staying that was an expense I didn't take into consideration.
