My 2-year-old filly decided to play with some geldings across the pasture fence. She somehow got a front foot caught and took out a pretty good chunk of her heel bulb along with hoof wall. X-rays didn't show the joint being affected. She may have torn a tendon. She is wearing a cast and is confined to a stall. Vet says its to soon to know how she will heal. She was supposed to be going to the track.....
Anyone dealt with an injury like this, and if so what was the recovery time and eventual outcome?

My gelding tried to rip his hoof off sticking his leg through barb wire.  He actually got luck and didn't rip any tendons, and he didn't damage his hoofwall. It was above the coronet but under the ankle.  But he was out 3 months or so for the time it took to heal.  It was in a place they couldn't stitch due to the movement.  He's sound today.

Had a rope horse paw while tied at a rodeo (husband took old stock trailer to save fuel money) and she cut the bulb of her foot. She was in a cast (we had to recast a few times) but she healed up just fine. It took some time but her slightly cut tendon healed good and she only has a small scar on her foot. Didn't effect her at all after all the time it took to heal.
