horse barn job question
What Name?
so I board my horse with a really popular farm here and became friends with one of the girls that worked there. But she quit and move back home which is out of state. so the barn is really short handed. I've have had experience working on a farm before, just not riding other peoples horses though. Which i won't be doing. And the barn owner actually approached me today and offered me a part time job assisting her with the farm. Things like mucking stalls, leading horses to and from the field, helping with shows, office work, riding the laid back horses to keep them worked, feeding, watering. Normal stuff.
She asked me what kind of hourly wage I wanted and I have no idea. Lol any suggestions?.also this will just be an extra money time job. That I do afterwards generally between five and eight Monday through Friday and then odd hours on Saturdays and Sundays when I can.

RE: horse barn job question
Location: Texas
My friend pays her barn hand $10.50 an hour.
She cleans 30 stalls, helps swim horses, blankets the horses... small, helpful duties, but she does not ride the horses or warm them up.
We pay our hands, $30.00 per ride, to ride ranch colts.

I've worked at a few barns, and have been paid $10/ hour. But the barn that I'm currently working at pay me $48/day. Honestly I prefer being paid per day versus per hour. There is 42 horses between 4 barns, on a normal work day I turn in/out, clean stalls, clean and fill water tanks and buckets. But on the days I am feeding all 4 barns and turn in/out and stalls they pay me $100/day. I also ride some of the boarders horses and teach lessons for some extra money.
Edited to ad. They also charge the boarders for their blankets $1 on $1 off. It's and easy way to make some extra $$ during the colder months
