Worming Woes

So my vet called with my horse's FEC results this am and he's at nearly 3000 eggs/gm which is pretty high. She recommended a Panacur Powerpac for 5 days then in 2 weeks Equimax then in 2 weeks another FEC.
I'm really worried about him having a colon block from the load of dead worms and colicing. My vet said to give him banamine and to monitor him while he's being wormed. He lost a considerable amount of weight in the few weeks that I've had him and I chalked his grumpiness with his belly to possible ulcers. This isn't the case I'd say!
Can anyone recommend anything to help? I'm planning on starting the PP Fri am and dosing after his grain in the am and giving banamine and probios before I worm.

RE: Worming Woes
The power pack does not kill worms ... it drugs them and they poop them out on the ground while immobile ... this is where you get the clogged worms and colic ..
Just give old horse entire syringe of ivermectin that will kill the worms and they will disintegrate and pass out as a fluid rather than a ball of passed out worms.
In 30 days give another dose of ivermectin ...
Watch your horses poop ... after cleaning out with a wormer ... poop Is some color of green //yellowish ... as worms build up ... poop gets darker and darker to brown and black .......... this is the worms pooping and blood leaking from their places of attachment inside your horse ...
I stay on a 60 day worming program regardless of color of poop .. with one 90 dose of Quest at New Years ... Easter, July 4th, Labor day and Halloween are my 60 day ivermectin worming dates .. then start a New Year over again ..
Banamine is so misused anymore ... it is for gut relaxation if you have an obstruction in the gut ... NOT FOR PAIN OR RECREATIONAL USE ...
If horse gets constipated he needs all of his rectal colon strength to move his poop out his anus ... just like you do when sitting on the pot constipated .. lol
GOOD LUCK ... we have too many textbook vets trying to be equine specialists
with no common sense ...
if your vet does not own horses ... find another vet ..
