Everyone has wounds and scars caused by someone else's hurtful actions and words. Whether it was a lie, betrayal, rejection, insult or abuse, the pain is real and can cause deep wounds.
It can be difficult, to over come this type of hurt. While reading these verses you will be able to reflect on pain in your own life and the specific person or situation that cause it, human nature wants us to hold a grudge.
Proverbs 25:19-28. Confidence is an unfaithful man in time of trouble it is like a bad tooth and a foot out of joint. Like one who takes away a garment in cold weather, and like vinegar on soda, Is one who sings to a heavy heart. It your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; if he is thirsty , give him water to drink; for so you will reap coals of fire on his head, And The Lord will reward you.
The north winds bring forth rain, and a BACKBITING TONGUE an angry countenance. It is better to dwell in a corner of a housetop, than a house shared with a contentious woman. As cold water to a weary soul, so is the good news from a far country.
So righteous man who falters before the wicked it like a murky spring and a polluted well. It is not good to eat much honey; so to seek ones's own glory is NOT glory. Whoever has no rule over his own spirit is a city broken down, without walls.
In Romans 12:20 , we see the apostle Paul quoting this proverb about how we deal with our enemies, (our tongue of hurtful words, our actions toward others) Paul instructs us NOT to seek revenge but to trust God to avenge any wrongdoing. Heaping coals of fire on our enemies' head sounds good to us, but the picture in the Eastern culture is quite different from what we imagine. People carried things on their heads, buckets of water, fruit, etc. so the Eastern mind, heaping coals on someone's head would mean to provide some type of water, food, or shelter. To do this for an enemy( your tongue of words) would actually indicate a blessing for them. It would also indicate forgiveness.
Jesus put a new twist on relationships. He said that our relationship with God hinges our relationships with our people.
So be kind, be an encourager,BE A BLESSING not a curse to someone today. Have a BLESSED Day!!
For it is with God all things are possible
Father God, guide me today to do all things that will bring glory and honor to You Amen
