So how do ya'll feel about these "bio active protein" products which are derived from animal plasma, i.e. Lifeline Equine and Stride PowerPlus?  From what I can decipher, this is sourced from slaughterhouse blood.  I was recently given a bucket of the Lifeline Equine when I purchased back a horse that I had sold as a two year old.  (He is five now.)  Previous owners had the horse on it and had no issues getting him to eat it.  I don't feed any sweet feed, only a small amount of whole oats and I can't get ANY of my horses to eat it.  I tasted it myself and it really doesn't have much taste.  So I started researching exactly what it was...  no wonder they won't eat it!    I understand that plasma/serum is given to new born foals or really sick horses.  Just wondering what other's thoughts are on these products as a daily supplement.

Below is the response I got from Bluebonnet Stride PowerPlus:

You're right, the general idea of collecting blood from cattle slaughter houses sounds terrible to the general public, but that is where it is sourced. Only clean, filtered, federally inspected blood is used. It goes into stainless steel tanks and is then exported to a specialty facility that uses a closed system process with UV photopurification. The blood is then spun down and the plasma is separated off. The plasma is then atomized into a spray-drier to evaporate excess water and we are left with a pure powder form of bioactive proteins. Let us know if you have any other questions!
