I do it too, but can anyone tell me how and why calf roper's saddles and pads are SO dang tight the saddle doesn't dare move a half an inch when they get back on and their pads are always tight to the withers??

Yes I do but as soon as I get on with in a few steps the pads seem to find their way down and end up with no tent or a 1/4" of one.
I have probably 7 or 8 different brands of pads and they all do the same, even blankets.  Wade pads are the worse so stiff you can't even pinch it up.

Does that mean your saddle is too wide?  I'm just curious.  Does it do it with different saddles or just one in particular?

Does it with all saddles... i have a Tucker trail and several Circle Y barrels.  I can say all the saddle fit decent (nothing is perfect) on the horses and usually have even sweat patterns.

3 years ago I stumbled across a Reinsman pad that I absoultely love and it makes all the sense in the world!  I bought a saddle and the guy threw it in the deal.  I began using it and then I bought another and am getting ready to buy another!  No more constantly pulling/jerking on my saddle pad or blanket!  I swear my horses love them and move freely!  They are wool felt.  Not the prettiest but they come in different colors and sizes.  I'll post a pic of one.  I'll never use anything else!  I also NEVER use rubber or neoprene on my horses nor anything with any kind of foam in the middle.  If it's not Wool, I don't use it!

Here is a link to a store that sells them for a really good price.
