ladyelbert - 2013-12-02 11:18 AM i better clarify this a little more...she advertised it as a 15 inch treeless saddle.. i spoke with her on the phone and told her i rode was riding a 15 1/2 treeless by circle y but it is sized that way. if  it were a treed saddle it would be a 15 inch. She kept assureing me that it WAS a 15 inch seat...but in fact this treeless saddle even though it is marked 15 inch on it, it in fact rides like a 14 inch....when she re advertised it she THEN states thats it rides smaller than a 15". if she had posted her original ad that way i would have never bothered with it in the first place

Okay this clears it up a bit.

The saddle was technically not misrepresented in that it is marked as a 15" & was advertised as such. However, the seller knew it rode smaller & sold it to you anyway, with no warning, which puts her at fault.

Now, I agree that the seller was in the wrong, but I still would have called her & given her the heads up that you were returning the saddle & the reason why. However, hindsight is 20-20 & a lesson was learned on both sides, I'd guess.
I don't agree....it is the BUYER's responsibility to research the saddle seat size....If the seller sold it as a 15" and it is marked a 15".....the seller did nothing wrong....I would "assume" that she didn't know it rode smaller and until the OP returned it that is why she put it is her NEXT ad......If I had been the seller, I would have been VERY ticked that the OP didn't, at the very least, have the common courtesy to contact me before arranging to send it back.

agree

What I would have done differently- I would have tried the saddle on my horse, loped a few circles, then handed over the money. If I knew I was planning on buying a saddle in person like this I would have had this plan re arranged with the seller.

What I would do now- Call the seller and apologize, admit you were upset/shocked that the saddle didn't fit then offer to pay the listing fee for the new ad.

What would I have done?

I would have tried the saddle before I paid for it. I would have said "Hey. Bring it to this show & let me try it. If it fits, I'll take it."

You don't pay for it THEN try it. You usually try it out first. At least that what I do.

Nope, if it was advertised as a 15" and even marked as a 15" it is not the sellers responsibility if it didn't fit the way you wanted. I wouldn't have given you your money back because it wasn't misrepresented and I've sold A LOT of saddles. Some saddles are known to ride big or small and it's the buyers responsiblity to know what size they need in a particular saddle.
PS....If this was a Bob Marshall, for future reference, they will ride smaller on a horse with rock in their back because the saddle conforms around you as you sink in to the horses back. They tend to not do that with a flat backed horse obviously.

If I were the people that brought it to you, I would NOT have taken it back.  They may have had to go out of their way to return it.

When you buy used, either take the risk and resell it, or go in person and try it before you pay for it.

I don't think it was the sellers responsibility to state "how it feels".  I don't know if I would even know what that means.

I think you owe the seller an apology.

You asked.
