Would the tvt procedure work for me?  I had to have emergency surgery on my abdomen (intestines ruptured) and they cut my ab muscles so I have no strength there and my bladder is shot............I have to pee all the time!  I've been to the "trainer" and it helped but nothing has stopped the constant urge feelings.............!

I've heard that this surgery works, but I've also heard of a lot of lawsuits because of issues related to this surgery. At my age, 60, and after children, it is so much easier to just wear a light pad daily. I don't think I'd want to under go any type of surgery unless it is really necessary.

It works.  Easy surgery, almost no down time. A good urologist or incontinence specialist, should be able to explain everything.

The mesh procedures can help a lot if the issue is stress incontinence - leakage when you jump, cough, laugh, ride, etc. there really aren't any medications that help with stress incontinence. It's more of a structural issue with your bladder and urethra (the tube that drains the bladder). Very common after childbirth. There are some other procedures besides just the mesh available too, and the newer mesh products are having better outcomes than the older products. I did some training with a urogynecologist in medical school who specialized in this and there are numerous procedures to treat this. Definitely try Kegel's, they can help, but I'd recommend seeing a doctor and just discussing what your options are. Just because you meet with a surgeon doesn't mean you have to have surgery.

Urge incontinence is where you have trouble making it to the bathroom when you have to go. This type is related to the nervous system control of the bladder and it is treated with medications. Often times women have "mixed incontinence" where they have both urge and stress. This is why some people with stress incontinence still benefit from medications. I was also trained in some manipulation techniques in osteopathic school that have helped several of my patients with this. So you could try some manipulation or chiropractic.

I haven't even had kids yet and I already have some urge incontinence problems. Which makes me terrified to have kids! I'd have to buy diapers for the baby and me! This is such a common problem with women, I can't even tell you how many of my patients have some problem with incontinence. Talk to your doctor about it - at least learn what your choices are.

And then there is Menopause old age 4 kids and a hysterectomy....before I ride I put on a depends the ones that are like large maxi pads. Is sucks cause it's usually hotter then haddies when i compete but its better then wetting my panties and getting the saddle wet.
I have thought about the bladder surgery but I am scared to death it will fail.

I have two kids 2 and 4, I had a really hard time with them and they recked me. LOL I just had the monarc sling put in 5 days ago. It isn't a big surgery and I am have good success already. Go to a good specialist and have something done. It is worth it. U are not a lone you can pm me if you have any questions. I couldn't even walk 200 feet with out leaking. Good luck

A long time ago doctors use to fit pessaries, a small oval or roung plastic ring that would hold the bladder up to prevent leaks. I used a tampon and it works great!

Every time I ride I wear Poise pads. not as bulky as depends. My potty chair in trailer is best friend, I ride a few minutes then go and then come back right before run and go. My little boy just turned three and its getting better. As strange as it sounds the more I click with my horse the less problems I am having. Not popping up leaving barrel, does that make sense?
Just know you are not alone and Kegels do help!

I have the mesh that is part of the lawsuit & had some minor issues.  I wish I would have shopped around for a different Uroglogist he had horrible bed side manners.  I ended up having to stay the night because I had complications from the surgery.  About a year later I went out with the girls & ended up in the ER because I couldn't pee.  It's been about 8 years & I'm still happy that I had it done because I couldn't do anything without wetting my pants.  I wouldn't hesitate to have it done again but will be going to a different Dr. when this one wears out.

Kegels can certainly help but there are many more pelvic floor exercises available that could help you. I would find a physical therapist who specializes in womens health. Sometimes surgery is needed but there are a lot of other options to try. Also, kudos to you for discussing a topic many women are afraid to broach, I'm sure more than one person is benefiting from your question!
