She took her vitals, everything was normal, no broken bones etc. We flipped her again and then after two tries got her up! She was a little stiff and having muscle spasms but walking around, drank some water and is eating hay. The vet thinks she will be just fine! Thanks for all the advice and prayers!! We're going to continue to monitor her today and give her the week off to recover, gave her banamine and dex.
Glad to hear that shes up, but its going to take more then a week I think... |

Location: Oklahoma | Did the vet determine cause? Do bloodwork? Check her for tying up or a host of other issues? I'm thrilled for you she is up, but maybe a second opinion/evaluation is in order here to find out why it happened and what is going on with her. |

^^^ THIS........and I sure as heck would NOT start riding her until I found out what caused the issue..... |

Definitely agree. This is not something that "just happens" something caused her to be like that and I would be getting another vet out ASAP! You never know you might come home tomorrow and she is in the same boat again or worse! I wouldn't take my chances with this. |

Location: Oklahoma | Does this horse have Impressive anywhere in her pedigree? I would sure be doing a 5 panel test on her to see if she has HYPP or PSSM....muscle spasms, etc. sound like that might be the problem. |

Location: Texas | Maybe she tied up and just kind of dropped where she was and got stuck? I used to have one that tied up occasionally if she was dehydrated and she would get "stuck" on her feet. |

Location: Never in one place long | We're not sure, every since we got her up, she's been acting just fine. No lameness, soreness hasn't been down again... it's very weird. I don't know her breeding becauase she is grade and from a rescue. The vet seems to think she was goofing off and slipped on the mud next to the barn and couldn't get up, she struggled and then just gave up? I'll be monitoring her for the next week to see if there's any change. I don't know if she's worth putting 1,000's of dollars in testing when she's showing no signs of anything right now and only a $1,000 horse with no papers. If she does it again or acts strange in any way, we will start testing and ruling things out. I've heard from a few people sometimes a horse goes down and just THINK they can't get up after they fail a few times. I just hope that's all it was but so far so good. |

Location: South Georgia | An HYPP genetic test is quite inexpensive actually. Around $30 at UC Davis. If she is HYPP N/H, she is a carrier and could have a relapse. It can be controlled with diet. You kinda need to know if she is a carrier.

A 5 panel DNA test at Animal Genetics is $95.00... Well worth the money to rule out HYPP/PSSM1/MH and you get the results back quickly.
