Okay, so last night we applied for the card over the phone. They only approved us for $500, is that standard? it did say if we need a credit increase to contact the CC provider. So, does that mean i let my vet know that i need more to pay the bill? Sorry the website wasnt very helpful in this department. We haven't seen the vet yet for this particular problem, but I just wanted to have my ducks in a row before we went. Or is this the type of thing you have to do then and there? Thanks for all the info so far, it's been very helpful!

When all my horses broke at one time, I just called Care Credit to see if I could get my credit limit moved up a bit and they were really helpful!

Had you had your card for ahwile and used it before or we're you a new card holder? We literally just applied for the card last night and have never had it before so i just assumed they wouldnt give us a increase since we are new.  If not, i can still make it work since my vet allows us to make payments, but it would just be easier to be making one payment instead of two on the same visit.

Ok so I'm curious...is this something that you can just apply for and then keep in your wallet in case of an emergency? I'll be moving out on my own soon and would like something other than my one credit card in case a high vet bill comes up.

Yes, it is. But they did say you have to use it atleast once a year to keep your account active. Thats why we also want it. In emergency cases, Its nice to know it will be there and your babies wont have to suffer just because of lack of money.

I feel like once a year shouldnt be an issue with my luck (LOL). I'm on the website now looking at FAQ and all that fun stuff. Do they have a minimum purchase amount? I'm asking because if I were to use it to get coggins pulled or something is that allowed? Paying for that isnt an issue, it would just be to keep the account active if needed.

That im not sure of, i havent gotten mine yet haha. But i know people that have used it for their dogs regular check up which normally arent that much so im guessing theres not a min amount.  Yea itll be easy for us around here too, between shots and teeth haha not to mention any thing else that wants to come my way!

When you call to try to get the limit increased, it asks you how much you need to cover whatever purchase you plan on making. I think I was originally approved for something like $1500, and after making a purchase and paying a lot of it off, I asked for an increase and now it's like $7500 I think.

make sure the vet you use actually accepts care credit. Some do not accept it,so before you get there and have an appt and then see they dont use it,check first.

If they only approved you for $500 right away when signing up, they won't likely approve you for an increase right away. It's just like any other credit card you would apply for. That's what they determine based on credit status, income, etc that they are willing to offer you right now. As with credit in general, pay it on time, and after time of proving you pay your bills, you they could increase your limit.

I dont think there is a minimum purchase. I'm pretty sure I used mine to pay for some dental bills and one was about $20, so I doubt it.

Care Credit is a special type of credit card where the office has to accept that method of payment.  You can't just use it anywhere.  However, you can use it at some "human health" providers as well.  So it's not just for pet and animal bills.

I LOVE Care Credit. I had a horse emergency that unfortunately left a $5k bill at the end of the week. I was told to call CC and not do it online. I was an upset mess on the phone, but they were so patient and helpful. They asked me how much I needed for this particular trip and I was approved for the exact amount to take care of the bill. I had 6 months to pay in full or would have to pay a large amount of interest. I would recommend them to anyone who has an animal!
