No faster then 65 with the cruise control on if I am on an interstate.

On the open highway, even with no traffic, I typically keep it under 70. If I don't have a trailer, that's a whole different story

I’m a slow driver I’ll admit it lol but after a blow out on my truck once hauling back from the vet it was a miracle I didn’t lose it so now I’m a 60-65 mph driver... one thing to consider is your tires - a lot of trailers come with cheaper grade tires that aren’t rated for over 65 mph so keep that in mind too. Look up your tires to see what they’re rated for. I buy 14 ply heavy tires for my LQ trailer but still keep it under 65 lol occasionally if cruising down a big hill I’ll let it go over but I don’t accelerate or drive over 65 on purpose any more. 

When I haul I drive 60 all the way on any freeway. I may go up to 65, but usually not. I drove from Ca to Pa like this and didn't have a problem with anybody, thankfully. But I don't care about anybody being upset with me for being slower. As I'm sure with all of us, my horses are everything to me and that is the speed I feel comfortable with if I need to react to something. Plus I feel my horses are never stressed about trailer rides.

I am a slow driver and I too had read that it helps horses if no faster than 65, long ago read it.  Plus a big tip if in a construction zone and people are on your butt, hit a traffic barrel and watch how fast and a huge cushion you receive after that.  Works for me!

Interstate speed limit around here is 70....unless the conditions are bad, or it is windy and a pain to keep that speed, or there's a crap ton of traffic, I go 70. I feel like being the pokey person is just as dangerous as driving too fast. 

To those who say the speed limit is 80 where you live....I'm pretty sure my blood pressure went up just imagining that. Yikes!

Interesting only responses are those that drive the speed limit.  No one drives five over?  

I agree that driving slow impedes the flow of traffic.  That's dangerous too.

Thats why I stay in the outside lane so I wont impede any body thats driving faster then I, but many many times I do have to past but I get right back over to the slower lane. So really I'm not impeding anybody doing 5 under the speed limit but on open Highway I do drive the speed limit, going threw cities is tricky but once out of them its better driving. 

When pulling the trailer I stay just a hair under the limit, I dont care if I'm in someone's way, they can go around me if they feel the need. I dont let the flow of the other cars around me pressure me to speed up. I like to leave a very large cushion in front of me, so many cars will zip in it all the time. I'm forced to back off even more to give me the cushion I want. I always leave myself a lot of extra time to get where I'm going. I dont drive obnoxiously slow but I'm not in a hurry either.

They also said that they didn’t make lane changes and bless absolutely necessary. They felt this put more stress on the horses mentally and physically. I tend to agree. I have also quit pulling over on the shoulder to let people pass. Not only has that cut down on flats/blow outs on the truck and trailer, I have seen all kinds of trash on the shoulder from washing machines to trailers left on the shoulder with flats, to cars tagged for towing off.

As someone who has hauled many hundreds of thousands of miles pulling a trailer AND works in a trailer sales and service dealership, the best tip I can give others is to never, ever, ever skimp on tires. They are one of the cheapest investments out there. Blow outs cause expensive damage to fenders and much more...and have killed many people. Also, pay close attention to the temperature. If it's hot, slow down!!!  Without a doubt, this is the primary cause of summer blow outs. Check online to see the "fine print" regarding the speed rating for your tires. Chances are, you'll be suprised by what you learn.

I drive pretty much strictly on road & weather conditions.  If I'm going through a big city with multiple lanes, I'll get in the middle one (or the 2nd from the right if several available) so I am not constantly trying to dodge merging vehicles & can go w/the flow of traffic.  Constantly ticks me off when I leave some space between next vehicle & me for "emergency" braking & some idiot feels the need to fill it.
