This is what I do. I'm horrible I know. The last time we bought a bag of cat food my Doberman ate the whole bag. She is a fatty. My Boxer gets explosive diarrhea if he even gets a few bites of anything but his food. Considering him and the cat like to eat out of the same bowl, I gave up. They all get 1 kind of food... including the cat. |

I don't blame her for not eating blue buffalo. I couldn't even get the raccoon to eat it.... Let alone a cat.
Have you tried the Purina Pro Plan? Or have you tried dressing any of that kind of food with HealthyCoat or something similar?
Why will you not want anything eating Blue buffalo? I don't feed it but I was just curious |

I've had multiple outside cats live to 17-18 years old eating cheap food.
Us too. Had 2 outdoor, never inside, barn kitties live to be 17 and 19 on Friskies. :) they looked great and had zero health issues. |

Location: on my horse | I'll have to try a little bag of Iams, I love my picky kitty so will keep trying foods until I get something she'll eat. I inspected the outdoor kitty food bag today and its for mature cats only ages 7 and older (which those kitties are) so I really don't want to feed it to her as she's not quite a year old yet.
I would go raw for her but have a feeling that would get expensive in a hurry, if anybody who does that wants to send me a PM with some advice or type it out here that would be great!
I'm such a sucker and adore this kitty, will try to attach a pic of her. I've got some health issues and she sticks to me like glue on bad days

Location: The edge of no where | Barn kitties get cheap food....and I've had them live very long healthy lives on it. They're happy kids. Purina, Friskies, Meow Mix...pretty much whatever is on sale. They self supplement with cottontails, mice, birds, frogs, bugs, lizards.....and goodness knows what else. I just walk away..... |

| Things to keep in mind - good cat food will last longer because it's not full of a bunch of fillers and sodium, they eat less therefore they "go" less. Most cats and dogs will gobble up new food because it's different. When you introduce a new food take two weeks to make it their regular diet - use the 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 rule. The first few days make 1/4 of their food the new stuff, then by the end of the first week make it half and half, etc. until you've weaned them onto the new over a two week period. It's hard on their tummies to change abruptly. Once they are on the new stuff you may notice them picking at it here and there. This is what you want them to do, not scarf it down all in one feeding. They eat when they are hungry. One other benefit to good food - it tends to have more "good stuff" in it as well as oils to keep your cat's skin moist. If you live in flea country fleas like dry skin, it's what they feed on. You'll notice less of a flea problem after a few weeks. I have fed Iams for over 25 years - barn cats included. It lasts longer than the cheap stuff cause they simply don't need to eat as much so I personally think it's cheaper in the long run. I know there may be better things out there than Iams but this is what's worked for me over the years. Good luck - and your kitty is PRETTY!

Not that I don't want them to eat it, but if a raccoon turned his nose up to an easy access bowl, I don't blame the cat for not wanting to eat it( and that is way too expensive to buy to watch barn cats not eat it.)
What I do want is my barn cats/dogs/horses to enjoy what they are eating. Considering they eat the same thing every day, it would be sad if they don't actually like it. |
