realitycheck - 2016-11-12 10:04 AM I had a chance to ride in the BTR test ride saddle for a week and got to make some competition runs in it.

The first day I made a run in it my little mare stumbled on first.  Usually a move like that on her would throw me forward.  This time my butt never moved.  I was able to sit square through the entire run, even though I had only rode in the BTR twice.  ( I wish I had the video

In my opinion the BTR rides a lot like the Pozzi Pro or a Merrill.  It has forward hung stirrups and has a really secure feeling seat without making me feel like I was trapped.  I felt like I was able to ride more correct in it, even at a posting trot.

I tried a FX3 and didn't care for it.  I'm not sure why either.  It sorta felt like I might fall out the front of it.

I currently ride in a Crown C 14" seat with a 7" gullet.  It sits me okay, but nothing like that BTR.

The BTR that I tried was a 14.5".  I thought it might be to big for me, but it fit perfectly.

This saddle was life changing.  I will order one when I can get the funds together.

I'm going to try one of these soon.  Thanks for sharing the information and your experience on them.  All I've heard about Martin's (mainly Crown C) is they throw you forward.  I'm excited to try it after reading your review.

Mine should be here Thursday. I ordered it in February and it has been a long, long wait. Nothing like getting last year's Christmas present in May!!

I tried one and loved the ride of it!!!  I thought it felt very secure, but my feet could still move and it was easy to get up and hustle.  I would have kept it in a heartbeat, however, it didn't fit my horse quite as good as my Martin Racer, so I ended up returning it.  If I had another horse that it fit, it wouldn't have left my place.  Way better quality workmanship wise than 99% of saddles out there too!

If you don't live near a Martin dealer you can call Equibrand and they will ship a demo or have it shipped from the person that currently has it. They will usually let you have it for 1 or 2 weeks before shipping it on to the next person. I did that with my FX3 and it worked great. I also ordered from Leanin Pole Arena in Kildeer and am no where near there, but they offered the best price out there. I really like the FX3 and it holds me in when running my cutting bred horse, but would like to try the BTR at some time just to feel the difference.

I sat in one over the weekend. It sits really nice but the cantle sits soo low. It was half way on my butt. It was a 14.5 inch saddle I really need to be in a 15. My friend is a true 14.5 and she thought the same thing. I didn't ride in it but I was disapointed over all.

I thought they had a deeper seat, I sat in one but it was not on a horse and the cantle felt pretty good, I was thinking the cantle was a 5 inch but looked it up on the Martins site and found the cantles were 4.5 inches still good thou.  My Crown C has a 4 inch cantle so the BTR's are a little deeper..

Roxie, I know Teskey's has multiple round skirted BTRs. What seat size and gullet are you looking for? Have a friend I can send over to look and take pictures for you.
Teskey's has a ten day return policy so if you get it and want your money back you can totally do that. Or you can order one through Teskey's and put it on layaway if you need to or pay on it while Martin builds it.

Well Thank you, I went and had a Deb Sibley made for this one gelding that I want a BTR for thinking he would like the flex tree WRONG he hated the feel of it, so now I have a ad up here on BHW to sell it along with my other Deb Sibleys.. Should have just kept saving my money for the BTR, so now I need to sell these and then I will be on the hunt again for one..  I'll let you know if I get these saddles sold anytime soon..

I purchased a BTR recently for my futurity mare who has been a nightmare to saddle fit, as it was the best of everything I tried. I've been riding her in a Coats original. The first time I rode in it, it was a way different feeling and I thought I wasn't going to like it. The second day I rode in it, I made a few cruise throughs on my two horses and quickly changed my mind. I've always had a good seat (started colts since I can remember) but sometimes in my runs can get rocked forward. I feel like it allows me to stay centered and square. My feet feel very forward at a walk or trot, but loping and running you don't notice it at all.

I don't have any negative thoughts towards the cantle height, but I'm also a person who doesn't like feeling of being snug or trapped by a barrel saddle.

I purchased mine from Leanin Pole Arena. Best price around hands down. And I shopped for several months before purchasing.

I also did a lot of shopping and pricing and went with Leanin Pole. Great price and Jackie was awesome to work with. .
