Location: Blissfully happy Giants fan!!! | I live in East Texas and I love it! I am close to I-20 and hubby and I now know we need to be close to an interstate for sure. Ease of traveling. Hubby is a gamer though so if you ask him his chief complaint it is lack of high speed internet like Austin has. This year has been so mild heat wise. I HATE the cold and it was too cold for me this winter. I about died (yes that is an exaggeration but I felt like I might some days). I have no issue with the heat though I could live without the humidity. Because of that, I am very careful about when I ride, what temperature, and when I haul. Barrel races all of the time and I already am spoiled to it (and cheap fees-I cringe at how much I paid in California). Our housing market is strong here as is our job market. We have a medical hub so that helps a lot. HUbby and I have thought about what it would be like to live in different parts of Texas but we always end up not liking an area as much as we do East Texas. |

We live in east Texas and it is beautiful, sandy for the most part and barrel races and ropings pretty much every night of the week within an hours drive.
There are certain areas to stay away from, check the soil type first and foremost. Black gumbo clay is a definite NO.
Do you prefer bigger city or small town living?
If you can give us more info there are alot of Texas bb's here that can help you. Totally agree with my buddy Canchasr1. If you stay clear of the gumbo you're golden!
We might get a week of really cold weather or ice and snow a year.
Otherwise, they are pretty nice.
It is unusual for it to stay below 40's for very long.
I could handle that. My brother and sister in law use to winter by Stephenville and every time we went up to see them the wind was blowing like crazy and it was way too cold for me. I hate it when it's windy in the winter. |

| Moved to Weatherford 10 years ago and it is a perfect location. You can find a race every day (night) of the week within an hour of here. Fort Worth is a reasonable drive if you must work there. I must say I am disappointed that Weatherford prides itself in being the cutting horse capital of the world, yet there is not an indoor equestrian center. In fact, all we have is the outdoor arena which only seems to be used a few days a year for the rodeo.
In north TX, you can walk 100 yards and be on different types of soil (Rock). A dream house on good soil is a big bonus.
Property taxes can vary quite a bit between school districts, so that is important to check out. Regardless, in Texas, you will be saving money by avoiding a state tax. |

Location: Weatherford, Texas | I am in Weatherford (20 mins west of FW) and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Great people and truly a nice town. Very clean, good school, close to FW so you can drive easily and W'ford I think has a good bit of business in itself.
ETA- barrel races nightly nearby, good ground (it changes all thrut his area- we have sand and not a rock on it, but just a few miles down is it black clay gumbo and rocky), just look at the place.

Summers up here in Minnesota/ND are the best anywhere, usually, but they last 3-4 months. From what I've seen, summer in Texas is pretty oppressive. It's hot, dry, dusty, and brown. For us, the solution is 8 months in Texas, and head north for 4 months in the summer! I do like Texans a lot.....love one in particular! LOL |

| In northeast Texas we have a totally of 3 months of HOT weather(End of June thru Mid Sept) and the rest of the year is pretty darn good. We do have some cold snaps that will get into the teens but that doesn't last very long. This summer has been pretty bareable until about a week ago but it's Texas, it's supposed to be hot right now. It's been several years since the summer was not green. East of Dallas stays fairly wet so we don't see much of the brown grasses and the ground is very nice and sandy. |

Location: Texas | I live in SouthEast Texas and love it.
Land prices are high around big cities or in desirable scenery….but its pretty variable. We live in wharton. 30 minutes Northish and the land is 20-30,000 an acre. Here its 5000-6000.
We do live in the black gumbo dirt but it's not that bad. Biggest negative was having to truck in 38 loads of sand for our arena. If you overgraze pastures and have a lot of dirt exposed it becomes a big mess. If you have grass its not a big deal….but anywhere where it's mostly dirt will get really messy and sticky and ball up all over hooves and boots.
This summer we had a new arena about 1.5 hours away renovated so they had a summer series on Friday nights. We have a weekly Tuesday Jackpot in Sealy an hour away. They just started a Wednesday practice night in Alvin which is an hour away. And a series was just finished in Victoria on Thursday nights, which is an hour away.
if I were to move I would move toward College station or toward Glen Rose. East is good too. I don't want to go South and I don't want to go West. |

Well welcome to Texas  , I'm born and raised a Texan and dont want to be any where else, maybe get a bit closer to the hill country where theres less people, lol..

Theres alot of BB's that live not far from one another here in Texas. Kathie {NTO} Linda {SHR} and me , lol and I know theres more that all live within an hour and a half from each other. Maybe one day we can all visit at a Barrel race.. Get Scott to bring his BBQ bit and he can cook some steaks for us.. And love the Wrapn3's.  |
