Just count the ones with a (D) behind their name.

Then why are You posting?

And You and Yours Intellect is superior? How? By making Everyone's Decisions for them? That in and of itself is Communist. Oh, because of You and Your Superior Intellect it is not Communist, it is just everyone else is not as intelligent as "Us". Go live in Russia and see just how well You and Yours make out over there! Your paraphrasing is wrong here Socrates....

That quote is saying: if you aren't willing to act, somebody will - and they aren't necessarily going to do things you like.

Or, in even smaller words... "If you want something done right, do it yourself."

Oh good grief!  This "political correctness" has gone way way beyond the ridiculous!!

Someone can always find something to be offended about.  And no matter how small the vocal minority are...they can ruin the fun for everyone else with their manufactured outrage.

On a more local front here in Arkansas...the right for gay folks to marry is in the spotlight.  The past few weeks it has been big in the news. We are in the last stretch of the political campaign season before the primary elections tomorrow.  And yet...not ONE candidate of any party has said one peep about their position on gay marriage in their campaign ads.  Why?  I'll tell you why...they know it's a hotly debated topic and they want to stay far clear of it so they don't risk offending any voters on either side of the issue.  It's popular to say "I will rein in Spending"...or "I'll repeal Omabacare"...or "I stand for family/american values".  Safe easy sell positions/topics.

To me they are all cowards.  They need to own whatever side of the issues they fall on...and those who are so sensitive they can't tolerate any viewpoint other than their own or who are intent to find fault and offense in everything they see...They all need to Suck it UP Buttercup!

This is the most divided this country has been in my lifetime.  More and more, politicians seem to be eager to capitalize on every opportunity to pit one group of Americans against another.  These are all calculated, easy ploys that work.  It doesn't take any skill or finesse or brain power to do this.  Most of today's career politicians lack the fortitude to take an objective look at the loom on the road up ahead, and come out with proposals that are aimed at actually fixing the problem.  All they seem to want to do is carefully craft positions that are calculated to garner the most votes.  I hate the phrase "kick the can down the road", but that's precisely what most politicians are doing.  You put in 20 years as a US senator or congressman, and you have it made for life.  Even 10 years.  I think most of them are a lot like divorce attorneys who prod and pit plaintiff and defendant against one another by day, and get together for cocktails at 5 o'clock.   They know that so long as the "meter keeps running" at $200 an hour, the money keeps rolling in.  Same thing in politics.
Patrick Henry popularized the phrase "United we stand, divided we fall".  He was trying to say that if we allow ourselves to be split into warring factions, eventually that will destroy that union upon which this nation depends.  Hidden amongst the feckless politicians whose concern is mainly self-preservation, is a group of radicals whose life long goal it is to destroy this country.  They know exactly what they are doing.....this is their mission.  Everything that has shaped Obama's life points to this, from the time he was a child.  His written and spoken words point to this.  It is indisputable.

I read an article that the new phase at the Ivy League schools is "Check your privilege" i.e. - you got where you are not because of hard work but because you were privileged enough to be born white. Yes, i agree that white people did not face the same prejudices that minorities have but that is not to say that did not have obstacles to overcome and did not work hard for their achievements. More guilt, more tearing down of one group to build another up. Yes, we need to know our history but how does this division and guilt help others? Let's not succeed and others will???? Let's not be proud of our accomplishments because that takes away from someone else???

I left the Republican party a long time ago because they failed to carry a consistent message that I could believe in.  I am an independent with a mix of libertarian and strong conservative values.  I believe government should be limited in it's scope and power, and the limits of the federal government as delineated in the US Constitution should be followed.  Our government has reached a size and scope in which it is feared by the very citizens that supposedly own it.  When that happens you have increasing paranoia as a result of a far reaching tyranny.  I really don't see any signs that this pressure cooker we are all a part of is going to cool off.  Basically, when it comes to Washington DC, it's every man for himself.  WE are all witnessing career politicians use OUR money to buy their own security by making promises that can't be kept and establishing programs and policies that anyone with half a brain can see are unsustainable.  We all know the problems.....national debt, a tax code that nobody understands or agrees with, widening social divides, moral decay, the social security farce, medicare, healthcare, poverty, education, illegal immigration, energy independence, and a decline in our international standing and influence.  A real leader should be, first and foremost, a uniter.  He should be able to get individuals to come together to actually solve problems in a way that makes sense.  Reagan did this.  Kennedy did this.  Obama does the opposite.  In my opinion, we missed a big opportunity when Romney was defeated, because I honestly think he had the ability to do this.  He's done it before.  As a conservative there are a number of conservatives I like, but some of them don't have the ability to lead in a way that can bring this country back together.  They should remain as legislators....but only for a limited time, because I feel term limits is a critical issue that needs to be made into law.  The power and the allure of personal security as a career politician is simply too intoxicating.  There are plenty of smart, honest, decent, capable citizens out there who are capable and able to serve for a limited time.  People usually volunteer in the military, in large part, out of a desire to serve this nation in it's defense.  The same motives ought to apply to politicians.  To say that today's politicians are "serving" us is an oxymoron on steroids.

"Affirmative Action" came to mind when I read this.  For the life of me I fail to understand why we should lower standards for anyone, simply to meet some quota and give everyone a false "feel good" feeling that, in so doing, we are "promoting" minorities.  It's one thing to have an organization dedicated to promoting equality regardless of race, gender, religion, ethnicity, or gender.  On the other hand, to lower standards because someone belongs to a "sect" of society is pure bogotry and racism.  It is an undeniable statement that says, "Because you are (fill in the blank) we lower standards for you, because, as everyone knows, you are not capable of meeting the same standards expected of non-(fill in the blank)".
It's called the "soft bigotry of lowered expectations", and it is so wrong.
