Tell me about ovarian cysts and regumate

My 6 year old mare was palpated today and we found a cyst on her left ovary. The vet recommended a hormone shot and then regumate. What experience have ya'll had with ovarian cysts and/or regumate? I know nothing about either.
ETA: after doing some research online, it appears that mares do not get ovarian cysts so what are they really and why did the vet say they are "cysts? " any ideas?

Is it a luteinized follicle? I just treated a mare for this. We did 10 days of regumate and on day 11 gave a shot of estrumate. Ultrasounded her on Friday
(4 days after the estrumate
) and everything looked back to normal. We're going to let her ovulate the follicle that she's growing and then get her started on daily regumate. I've had reproductive issues with this mare so we're just going to keep her from cycling.
I also had a mare with a large follicle that she was holding on to and not ovulating, so we gave her drugs to force her to ovulate. A couple of years ago we had a mare that would get stuck in her cycle during transition, so we would give her lutalyse
(similar to estrumate
) to get rid of the CL and get her back on a normal cycle.
There are many different things that can go on reproductively, and if your vet isn't experienced with reproductive issues you might need to haul her to a specialist that can help you get things straightened out.

We give it to a mare of mine who developes huge follicles and she's in agony April - Oct. like clockwork. Fixes her right up.
