I board my horse at a self care stable. I was able to pair up with one of the other girls and we split feeding times (I fed evening, she fed morning) but she got her own place and is leaving. I really would like to keep it down to one trip out a day. I suppose I could try and pair up again but most already have their groups and the only free girl is leaving in a few months anyway. I was wondering if an automatic grain feeder would help my situation. I like free choice hay so that isn't an issue. I would still be out everyday. An automatic little helper to feed mornings would be helpful! Any experience? Suggestions for models? Good, bad?

He is out 27/7 and will be alone on his 3-4 acres (since my friends horse who fed mornings is leaving). He also has two pastures with horses that share a fence line with him so he won't be "alone alone". I was thinking of mounting this feeder to the outside of his big run in, he would have to get out of his field to mess with it.

Can't see where it would hurt to try but you'll have to make sure you have an electrical source at least for it.

The best Christmas gift my DH gave me has been my automatic feeders. I have 6 horses and he bought me three double feeders that I hung one between every two stalls. They go off what ever times you program them to and the amount of feed you program them to dispense. As long as the feeders have feed in them and you have a power supply, they will feed automatically. If I'm running late and not at the barn, they get fed. If I want to sleep late, they still get fed. If I'm out of town, they still get fed. If it is raining and I just don't want to go to the barn, they still get fed. BUT you must have a dry feed. I had to change from a sweet feed & a all grain with molasses to a dry pellet with cracked corn mixed in.
Love my feeders.
