Battling weird lameness issue

My good horse came up a little sore on RF few months ago. X-rays showed slight arthritis in coffin joint. Not enough to inject. THen month later another vet looks at same xrays and says it not slight arthritis, but moderate and need to inject. SO we injected. Horse went 100% sound for a month and now stepping short again. He is not so much lame , but tender footed on gravel surfaces. Any ideas before ANOTHER vet visit tomorrow? Thanks!

Could it be farrier issues? I had an old ranch horse a long time ago that had dropped soles and arthritis further up in the leg. We just put pads on him and fed a feed through joint supplement. It's not much advice but that all I have :/

Ive had same farrier for 12 years so I doubt it. But going with a leather pad in a couple days. He is already on a feed through supplement AND Adequan and legend. Thanks!

My guess is soft tissue in the hoof capsule that xrays and ultrasound can not see, only an MRI. Often times
(such as your issue of showing changes in next set of xrays due to degenerative condidtion
) they have changes going on right now that you wont see till later down the road. My best advice until then is protect, protect, protect on any surface other than deep shavings or arena dirt.
