A Dirt Question...

We just recently put up a pole type structure to ride in. We have the base work done, it's nice and packed down. Now what to put on it? Sand? Clay? mixture of the 2? I am so confused...googling something gives you 50,000 different answers. What does everyone like and why?

We have a mix of sand and clay in our indoor. It is a very small amount of clay though. Just enough to give the ground some 'stick'. The sand alone is too shifty. When we put our indoor up it was with intent for training young horses for barrel racing & mounted shooting. We needed something that would be safe that we would be able to both work babies in, and make hard runs on, if we decided to host an event. I love my ground, it is seriously perfect when I have it all worked up nice.

How much should one expect to pay to create arena footing?
