My yearling colt got tangled up in our fence and lacerated his extensor tendon on his hind leg on Sunday. He also has a pretty crazy wound down to the bone. Basically I am looking for any stories or experiences with this type of injury and how the outcome turned out. The vet says he will definitely be pasture sound and that it is possible that he will be rideable someday. He is currently sporting a splint and gets bandage changes 1x a day. We are on day 6 and I need some encouragement!!

Had a mare lacerate a front tendon. I put her on 6 scoops of Platinum Performance and followed the vet's instructions for treating the wound. We use to gather cattle and the occasional trail ride. We were told we had a 50% chance that we would never be able to ride her. The vet was really impressed with how quickly she healed.

Bless his heart---and yours. Seems like so many threads tonight are about hurt/sick babies. Praying for a total and quick recovery. Please keep us updated

Do you mind posting a pic of where the cut is?? Oddly, my yearling filly cut her hind leg too... One on a tendon and one down to the bone. I am curious if they are the same tendon, my vet says that the tendon she cut "is the one you would want to cut if you had to", and that they go back to full 100% athletic ability. She's on day 7 of being stalled, bandages changed every other day with antibiotic ointment. Next week were apparently going to start working on the proud flesh that's forming.
