I have a mare that's been pretty choppy in her hind end. She swishes her tail a lot and had a tendency to switch her hind lead in small circles. Im not sure if it's related, but she also has pretty sensitive skin, she's always itchy and very dramatic about flies. She's been treated for ulcers and had back, pelvis, stifles, hocks injected. She's seen the chiro and had muscle therapy. All that helped a little, but not totally. I think I need to look into "mare stuff", but I'm not sure where to start. She was on regumate, but it didn't make a difference. Any tips would be appreciated!

I just bought a mare in July. Super hard working , finished 1d horse. But she is a MARE. Lol she has super hard heats and is the type that pees every time my gelding walks near her. But when you ride her she is all business. I have her on regumate now as well and it really does NOT make much of a difference. It makes her heats a couple days shorter but does not keep her out!! Honestly 2 things have worked the best. Mare magic , but even better LAME AWAY spray!!! Despite Chiro and all that she is a little sensitive over her ovary area and i use the spray before every ride and after and she really enjoys it !

I will look into that spray. She doesn't act all that marey, I never notice when she comes into heat, her attitude is always the same. She moves like she's tight in her lower back/ high up in her hind end

She's not marey and also Regumate didn't make a difference. I'm thinking no on the mare issues. Is it all the time? Do you ride her regulary enough to know if it's every day? Or is it cyclic? Did the vet say anything about cysts? Choppy in back and swishing her tail. SOMETHING physical is going on.  Is it only under saddle or does she move like that when you are working her loose in a round pen? Does she have back shoes on? I suppose you've had her X-rayed if you've had her injected in all those places? Is she warmed up enough, and slowly enough? Maybe arthritis? How old is she?
