Was seating at dinner with some friends talking horses as usually. Me and a friend has a disagreement. what to start off same way as I did then. There is always special cases. But she argued that thoroughbred horses can last as long as quarter a good choice long term for barrel racing. I disagreed and brought up how many full breed do you see in the nfr and how many people are advertising this thoroughbred has won this much in barrel racing breed to him. can they run and win of course again special cases. but over all a quarter horse is best suited long haul if you really want to grow. I just don't think thoroughbreds are built to take turns and abuse barrels cause on horses. they are meant to run straight lines and then most are retired at 4 or 3. again there is always a special case.

My opinion is it has nothing to do with how they hold up and everything to do with the fact that 6 furlongs is considered a sprint for a TB where the QH's that break first and win at 250 yards are best suited. Big difference in how they are built to handle the turn and sprint. Soundness issues run in all breeds due to breeders not being selective. Stud cripples himself or a mare does, lets breed em. Often times it is conformation related lameness.
