Taking a mare to be tested for Cushings/PPID tomorrow. Anybody have any experience with a Cushing horse? Double bonus points if its a successful broodmare.

I have had a cushings mare, but she wasn't a broodmare.

We put her on a low starch/sugar diet and fed her Animed Remission.  Stuff helped immensely!

Not sure on the broodmare part though.

Thank I’ve had a few with EMS. It’s prwtty easily managed with a low starch diet.

You’re probably aware of it but there’s a free for PPID offered by Boehringer Ingelheim. You fast your horse and the vet draws and sends in the blood to them.

It's limited to 4 tests per vet.. I used mine all up this testing period :( :( :( :(

The treatment for PPID is pergolide (brand name Prascend). If they are also EMS in addition to PPID, which happens a lot, you may find that until you start the pergolide the EMS symptoms will be hard as heck to get under control.
