dianeguinn - 2013-12-30 4:16 PM Just wanted to insert something here....the mind does not process the word no, not, etc. I want everyone to try something. Shut your eyes and don't think about a green bird. Do it now. ........ What did you think of as soon as you thought that? A green bird, right? That's because your mind does not process NOT....so when you are thinking something, always think about what you SHOULD do....instead of saying to yourself, "Don't lean", think "Sit up and stay in the middle" or instead of saying, "Don't turn till your leg gets past the barrel", tell yourself, "Get the horse's hip by". I tell myself this on my ratey horse all the way down the alley...."hip by, hip by" and chant that to myself. Btw....if you have time to think what to do, you're going too slow. A really good run only gives you time to react, and it takes 30 times to create new muscle memory, so until you do something correctly for 30 days, it will not be automatic....that is why repetition is so important, and it is also why people come out and say, "WHY can't I remember to ______(fill in the blank)?" It's because they haven't practiced it for 30 days and when you're going fast, it has to be reaction, not thought. JMO

Some very stellar advice, thanks!  No more "don'ts" for me, I too will use the hip by hip by statement
