I suggest hauling her to jackpots, and making it a good place to be, walk into the alley stop get off loosen cinch I give cookies too. This will make the alley a nice place. I would even pay exhibitions/timed onlies to just do this. When she can walk into the alley, then I would walk the barrel pattern, and not pick on her, I would try to keep her calm, pet her neck, or her bum. When done the pattern again I would walk up to the first stop get off loosen cinch and give cookie. As for ulcers, I would go straight to omeprazole and treat for min 30 days. I would also look at the feed she is getting to prevent ulcers. I don't give aloe, as I think it is a waste of money, there are better things out there.

Veteran Posts: 121 Location: SK	Loved this post OP! Last year I lost my good horse and went out and bought one that had been already running. I got him in February, didn't do much with him until July when I got a saddle that fit him 100%. The whole summer and fall I tried everything and I didn't get him through a pattern at a consistent speed let alone run a full pattern. It has been beyond frustrating! He was vet checked, chiro'd/ massaged by multiple people and still nothing changed. I also had an energy read done on him and she said he was having lots of mental struggles. I found one more chiro and he knew by just looking at the horse that he wasn't turning first barrel. Yup he was right! The first week after the treatment he was a totally different horse. I had a friend ride him for awhile and we had him working a gorgeous pattern in the field. Next jackpot a couple weeks later was better than before treatment but still wouldn't make it through a full pattern consistently. I entered him in pole bending for the last college rodeo of the season and left the barrels completely. He was a totally different horse! We had so much fun, he took off going down the alley and really wanted to run it was great! After that he had about a month off until the chiro was in town again and got worked on. The guy said he looked tremendously better but still naturally had some sore spots. He suggested just bringing him back would be a huge mental process but I'm still figuring him out so it will just take time. He got another monthish off because of a crazy schedule and then I have just started bringing him back. Walking and trotting most then adding a lope. I go into first and circle a nice even circle until he relaxes. The first few weeks it took 5-8 circles at each speed before he would relax and circle nicely. Then I would just go to second and stop. I have since started to continue this with the rest of the barrels just because he gets a little excited otherwise haha What finally clicked for me to work the pattern this way was putting a friend on him and seeing the exact spots he would tense up and just turn ugly. It's taken alot of patience but I think he is coming around. Took him to a jackpot a couple weeks ago and time onlied him and worked first barrel at a trot and lope just like I did at home until he relaxed and circled evenly (this took less time then it did at home surprisingly!) then I entered the first jackpot and just loped through, he had a gorgeous first barrel then tried to run but I pulled him up and made him lope. As much as I and he both want to run I know he isn't quite ready for a full pattern at a run. I have two months until my rodeos start again so I have a pretty good feeling we'll be smoking it by then!
