barrelracincrazy - 2015-08-04 11:06 AM Wow.  How sad.  This has me rethinking if I should leave the just the bars up or leave the bars and window up with the window open?????  My bars are not the sturiest of all bars.  All you have to do is pull down on a wire and it releases. It gets hot in the trailer so that is why I let the window down but keep the bars up!

That's the type of bars she had as well. Although I saw the graphic pics and the pony actually busted through and broke te bars off. Her trailer has mangers and this was a pony. It jumped. She said she was on the bridge when she noticed the pony's nose picking through the bars. She new something was wrong bc it wasn't tall enough to reach past the mangers. She tried stopping but if you've ever been on the MS river bridge in Baton Rouge it's crazy. There were 18 wheelers flying by. By the time she got to the bottom of the bridge the bars had broke and the pony had it's front legs out. She took the first exit and stopped as soon as she could. She said the pony wash thrashing and fighting and there really wasn't much she could do but try to pull it out. She said it took 30 minutes for police to arrive, who then accused her of hauling around a dead pony. They forced her to watch the autopsy right there in the parking lot, which proved it had just died (as did the FRESH blood) due to broken ribs puncturing it's lungs, then made her load and haul the cut-open dead pony home. She reapeatedly told the reporters the bars were up, and even had someone retrieve them off the road.
They had been traveling for 2 hours and hadn't felt any movement, when she felt the pony moving around is when she first saw it's nose. Thank goodness they didn't release her name bc people have trashed her on FB. She said she was treated terribly, with people standing around taking pictures the whole time. She thinks the pony was drugged bc it rode quietly for 2 hours.  Some have said the horse was tied too loose, well it was a pony and her tie rings are at the ceiling of the trailer. Yes that leaves a pretty loose rope. It's just a bad deal all around. Maybe it could've been prevented, but maybe not. The seller may have known the pony didn't haul well, but who expects one to try and jump out? Perhaps it had never been in a trailer like that. Stories that involve real people who you actually know remind you not to judge!!
I'm glad to see there hasn't been any bashing going on here like FB.

That's just so horrible...I hope the new owner is given some peace and if the old owners really did drug that pony, that they get what they deserve.

Most of the people that reply negatively on the owner, more than likely have no experience with horses. They are suicidal animals. I'm sorry to hear that she was treated poorly for something that was so out of her control. If the pony was for a child however, it may be a good thing it showed its colors before something happened. It also may have been just a freak accident. Bad deal all the way around!

Sooo true!  I always say you can bubblewrap them and put them in a padded stall, yet they still know how to get hurt!!

I'm too much of a wimp to click the link, so I'll just send up prayers. Poor horse and owner.

I started not to even open the thread cause I was afraid the first thing I saw would be pictures. . . . So prayer sent up without looking at the link

ETA now that I've read the whole thread I feel even worse for the driver. She will probably be traumatized by this for a long time. And shame on the authorities for how they acted towards her. And towards the general public if all that was done out in the open. . . . I know if I drove by and saw them doing that to a horse I would be sick, literally. And possibly show my rear end. A roadside or parking lot isn't the place for an autopsy. (If I read that part right)
