What would the benefit be of not using one? I bet at least 50% of the 80 runners didn't use one, including some big names. I also was watching the race post-getting bucked off my talented but touchy mare....wondering if the back cinch flanked her when we jumped over a ditch while gathering cows. So I will either be making adjustments or taking it off now! If the cinch was correctly adjusted and securely connected to the front cinch it could not have flanked her. If it was hanging loose like so many I see then it could have bounced around and startled her I suppose. Always on, always snug. I think I had it too loose:/ I agree tho that for me, if I adjust it tighter and closer to front cinch the benefits are there.

I prefer without now Why do you prefer without? Just curious? Honestly, I can't tell a difference riding and running with one or without. I prefer without because it's one less thing to have on the saddle, less weight, more convenient to switch front cinches out for my different sized horses, and I don't have to worry about a horse swinging a hind leg forward at a fly and getting caught up before I get the back cinch grabbed and done up.

Location: in the ozone	ALWAYS ride with one! I don't want the back of the saddle bouncing on my horses' backs, possibly causing soreness

Peecans	I still use a back cinch, I never will not, its just who I am as a person even on my treeless. But I will say if you are using a back cinch to stop your saddle from excessive movement and slapping your horses back, that saddle fit needs revaluated IMO. Things are still going to be moving, but instead of the saddle back popping up, its going to be the ribs being pulled up as the saddle tries to move around. Their barrel will expand a lot when they are low and working hard, and a back cinch can effect that. It just feels a bit different to me and I really do prefer a back cinch, epically on my treeless actually. And of course my ranch saddle ... you never know when I might actually catch something
