Mare in foal question

So in my time on this earth. As short as it is ! I have never seen a mare do this so i'm looking for information/help. a little back ground info, She is 18 this year and has had 2 foals prior to this one. 1st was normal no problems, 2nd was premature and we lost it. Now this 3rd one everything about this pregnancy has been normal and i have payed close attention to her. She is now approximately at 338 days. Well about 2 days ago she had a FULL bag, like almost to the point of going to wax soon and have a foal, and her hind end was very loose, relaxed. Her abdomen was hanging low and she was miserable. SHe showed all the signs of being a few days from foaling.
Now about 40 HRs ago I turned her out and she found a place to roll and then stood around looking mopey again. I pulled her back into her stall and later that night checked on her udders to see how she was doing. Her once full ready to BURST udders are now almost empty with very little fluid and are very loose and floppy, and resemble a mare just forming a bag around 310 days.
so my question is, what is going on? DO ya'll feel this is something to be concerned about? Has this happened to one of your mares?

RE: Mare in foal question
I don't see a problem.. a lot of mares do this prior to foaling. 340 days//11 months is avg carry time .. her age may put her at the 350 mark.
(2 weeks prior to last breeding date
)
She may drop her milk 48 hours prior to foaling or during foaling ... so you may be surprised when you find a new baby.
Look for occasional droplets of rose colored water on her vulva .. mine will foal within 24 hours once I see this ......
Mother Nature can be frustrating ... or just plain aggravating ... if you are following the mare around and peeking at her at all hours of the night she may go 365 days just to mess with you... lol... ordinarily the mare knows when the foal needs to stay in the oven until it is fully ready to see the world ...
GOOD LUCK ...

A lot of times too when theyare out walking aaround their bag will empty a little from the pressure and motion of them walking. ..i always squirt a tiny dime size amt in my hand and check the color. ..it'll go from a thin fluidy texture to a thicker milkier consistency right before they are ready...

Thanks for the info! I've watched and foaled out about 30 mares my self. 3 of the mares my own. and have never experienced this so I wanted info! and you supplied, TY! All though I saw the rose colored droplets a couple nights ago and thats about the time her milk disappeared and it turned to just loose udders.
AND Lucky me but i have cameras on my mares that are foaling so i just check them once at feeding time, and one more time after that once i go to bed, Then whenever i wake up periodically during the night i check the cameras for a little while to see if they might be approaching labor. With these cameras i haven't missed one birth so far and i dont have to freeze my back side off sitting outside!

I agree it is very normal to see this. I have quite a few who do it. In fact, I have an APHA mare who is at Day 345 with exactly what you are describing and all is well with her and the foal. Good luck!
