Just work your horse up into it slowly and don't expect too much too soon.

I am trying to come back after having a baby. I ran up till 5 months and my baby is now 3 months and my first race is next weekend. I am having a hard time! Of course I still have extra weight on and had to have a c section so my body is way different but my confidence is just not there either! My horse ran with some one else while I was off and she's fit and ready to RUN and I am just hoping I don't fall off. I can't believe how much confidence I have lost!^

Just be realistic with your expectations in the beginning, and don't give up or get discouraged. It takes time to get back in the groove.

I agree take everything slow! Not only are you conditioning your horse for back in barrels but your also conditioning yourself. I suggest a lot of long trotting and walking and trotting the barrels a few times a week.
Good Luck! Let us know how it goes.
