I have a very high withered thoroughbred gelding who is very difficult to find a proper-fitting saddle for. We have made our transition into western riding from the high-end jumper ring and have absolutely NO idea how western saddles are supposed to fit
(not sure if I sound like a fool or not here
). Pirate's main issue is that he has high withers and fairly wide shoulders, and my understanding at this point is that a saddle with semi quarter horse bars will fit him best- if I have to supplement his comfort with a special pad I can also do that. I have been told that I need a 15" seat as well as I am not a very big girl. I am looking for a barrel saddle as this is the discipline we are getting into- that being said, I have found a saddle online that has really caught my interest and from what I have learned from western saddle fitting so far, it seems as though it would work. I am really trying to refrain from spending a ridiculous amount on a new saddle as I would have to trade in my $3,500 custom CWD in order to be able to purchase the new saddle- which is something I'm not willing to do. I will attach the link for the saddle that I am looking at below, as well as a picture of Pirate so you can see his conformation.
Any input would be seriously appreciated!!!!!

Get a Meleta Brown Freedom saddle, she will even send a trial out to try if you want. You will not find a saddle that fits that type horse any better.

No to the saddle, try and find a good used name brand one with semi qh bars. Caldwell TG might be one that would fit. I have a high withered slender Qh that it fits just fine. Lots of nice saddles on this site.
also Meleta Brown is awesome to work with and her Freedom saddle is very comfy.

My guy is built the same way I got a prochoice custom it was used but in great shape. I use a gel pad with my guy and we now have no issues. PM me and I will give you the name of the dealer I used I highly recommend her.

I am not sure about the fit for your horse, but if you are not very big, a 15" seat is going to be too big for you for barrel racing. You may want to sit in some before you decide.
