So I have been working with this horse for about a year now and he clocks very well if he is ran two-handed to the first barrel and all the way around it then its just point and kick. Anytime he is asked to turn with one hand on the first....he shys away from the backside of the barrel lol. What are the funny quirks that your horses have???

How old is your horse? My granddaughter's horse that I started has NEVER turned a great first barrel, even as slow as I was going when we started. Now he turns great when working slow but still struggles sometimes with the first. When speed was added, the first barrel was a problem but he was so good on 2 and 3 that he could still clock. In time the first has gotten better, but still not super tight like the other two. I keep thinking that if he ever clicks on that first barrel, watch out world.

Charmayne runs a lot of her youngsters two handed to help them get really solid. All mine have weird quirky stuff that they do. But I love them!

Mine is a bit of the opposite. On his second and third, you CANT check him with two hands. He was trained by somebody who held her reins like a roper
(looped at the top, holding with her fist
) - if you check him with two hands he skitters around and doesn't stay square. I'm STILL figuring out how to put my own riding style into his second and third. Lol

One of the NFR girls is doing that. Maybe Slick's rider that is on the nice mare? I can't remember which one is two-handing the first. I can do it but not on national TV
