What Name? Posts: 1994	so my gelding has been in training for 6 months with Charlie Hutton. He's beyond great now in the saddle and has an amazing foundation on him. So here is my question. How many of you start your training for your young horses at 2 then put them back out to pasture to do more growing? I start my colts at 2, ride them a bit and then turn them out for the winter, bring them back for the spring when they turn 3. I never really "turn them out", I just mess with them and keep it relaxed without a lot of pressure. I'll start to expect more from them towards the end of their three yr old year beginning of the fourth year. But all horses are different so you have to know your horse before you can actually make those decisions.

Best of the Badlands Location: You never know where I will show up......	Mine get 30-45 days on them as 2 year olds and then are turned out to grow & develop until late fall of their 3 year old year. I don't do juvenile (3 year old) barrel futurities and am not on a timeline.

What Name? Posts: 1994	I figured I'd probably saddle him once in a while. But he's done so well I feel like a little grow time and time to just be a horse will do him some good. I was just curious how everyone else approached it with their horses. I don't plan on competing on him until he's older. Northern Chocolate Queen Posts: 16576 Location: ND	My 2 year olds get 20-30 low stress easy rides & that's it. As 3 year olds I aim for another 60 or a little more & get them out around the ranch. As 4 year olds I start their harder riding. I obviously don't futurity my horses but this works really well for me.
