I bought this bit last week and haven't had time to try it yet, but I want to be sure on how it works before using it.. My horse has has only used a ported bit once before and that was with reccomendation from my trianer. I thought I heard that ported bits will help a horse break at the poll? So thats what I think when I see them, Is a higher port a higher strength? And do I want the bit to sit upright how it is in the picture or does the port lay flat in the mouth?

I'm no bit expert, but I think they have the cheek-pieces turned the wrong way-

Yep, if you put it in the mouth that way it is going to cause a bunch of pain,  Make sure the curve in the mouthpiece is wrapping around the mouth not against it like shown,  Just flip the check pieces around.

Thank you, I did notice that in the picture and thought it looked weird.

The port lays flat and gives tongue relief because it gives the tongue someplace to go. A cathedral port works on the roof of the mouth. The port pictured isn't high enough for that really. It also offers more tongue relief because of it being broken on each side of the port. It works on the corners of the mouth, tongue, bars and curb (once a curb strap is put on). Your gag is minimal on this bit.
