Markel is who I use and we have medical option added pays for treatments n surgeries..it won't pay for preexisting stuff so if you want joints covered and there's any question you might get vet to get a clean set of xray on file when you start the policy to show it wasn't pre-existing.

Bumping this up as I am VERY curious.
Not trying to steal the thread from the OPby any means but I'm curious if it's expensive and what all it covers.

Thank you! i was told to use markel too, but when we called and asked about what medical covers they said no joints and no degenerative issues.

I use Excalibur haven't had to make a claim so I can't give experience on that. But to give you an idea I have my gelding insured for 30,000 mortality and 10,000 major medical. I pay about $1500 a year but that's based off of my 30k mortality. I believe it is 3.25% of the value plus X amount for major medical. I can't remember exactly how much the major medical cost out of the 1500 but you can get less than 10,000 and it will be less. Also look at the percentages you would have to pay if you needed the major medical some of the company's make you pay 30% of the total. My company pays 80% of DIAGONOSTIC testing but 100% on surgery and or hospital stay and treatment with only a $250 deductible so pretty good. Hope that helps.
