| Anyone have experience with recovery and returning to work after splint surgery (not removal just chiselling down bony growth). Any feedback and help is appreciated.

| Depends on if it's high or low, inside or outside, front or back.
Sidekick broke a back one, outside, midway. That is the best break to have. His was removed and he was back at work in 6 weeks with no problem.

| I would be wondering why there is a bony growth.
Inside and high, not a good spot, I would be asking my vet causes, prognosis, and any other treatment plan, and the return to work plan.
I had one who fractured just below the knee, stem cells, 6 weeks, stall rest, then straight lines for the next month on hard surfaces, then could resume normal exercise for 2 months then could barrel race.

Location: MN | My guy broke his left front...was first mis-diagnosed as a hematoma so i had a second opinion. Sure enough, it was broken. But the damage that the first vet did with poking it with needles and liniment which burned his skin, i had to wait until the scabs healed before the 2nd vet performed surgery which was about a 3 week wait for the scabs to fall off and heal. Took him in on surgery day and my vet actually turned him away after doing more xrays! During those 3 weeks the bone had began calcifying and he suggested i wait it out. He had right at 9 months off...mainly because of winter living in Northern MN and also with it being in my mind that he "broke" a bone, which terrified me. So i guess i did it for myself, giving him that much time off, but xrays after those 9 months showed that he was completely healed and on its own!! Only blemish is now a little bump on the inside of his leg but even when i took him just a few months ago to have some work done, my vet was amazed that he bump is hardly there anymore and is getting smaller.
Sorry for the book! | |
