| Psalm 77:1-3 I cried out to God with my voice, to God with my voice; and He gave ear to me. In the day of my trouble I sought The Lord; my hand was stretched out in the night without ceasing; My soul refused to be comforted. I remember God, and was troubled; I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed.
In today's passage, Asaph was experiencing a time of spiritual pain.
he asked God six tough questions : Will The Lord always reject us? Will He never again show favor? Has He stopped being merciful?
has His promised failed? Does He no longer remember grace? has His compassion disappeared?
Yes , there are times in all our lives we feel every one of these questions. We already know the answer to each one, if we have a personal relationship with Jesus. No, God's grace, mercy, compassion, and forgiveness NEVER go away. But even though Asaph surely already knew the right answer in his heart and his mind, his experience was telling him a different story. He cried out to God in the night, but found no comfort. He was overwhelmed and tortured by memories of the past when God's presence had been so close that Asaph had sung praises to Him from his bed at night. Now, The Lord was keeping Asaph's eyelids open all night long, and the tough questions swirled in his mind. So instead of holding the questions inside, he simply asked God.
Asaph sets a great example for us all, when the pain of life causes us to have hard questions for God. Today, if problems and pain your life
are causing you doubts in your heart, be honest with God about them. Verbalizing questions to God will bring you back to His goodness, grace, and mercy once more. You'll be reminded that His compassion NEVER ceases and His promise NEVER fails.
For it is WITH God all things are possible.
