Has anyone seen mane hair loss like this before? I really don't think it is getting rubbed as all the mane on top is intact. Like the post says, I ran full blood panel and checked selenium. Everything is normal. My vet recommended HHA. He really is healthy otherwise and competing well. He does have either a blanket or fly sheet with hoods on most of the year - not sure if that would have anything to do with it...

I reread your post and I bet your hood has something to do with the mane loss if hes wearing it all the time.
