Has anyone heard of Running Horse Feeds before? It is made in my area and it is cheaper than my current feed, Pro Force Fuel by Nutrena. I like the idea of an extruded feed and I like the high protein, fat and fiber of the Cut N Slide. Any ideas if it is worth the switch? Thanks in advance!

All of these grain based feeds are pretty much the same. Most have wheat mids, distillers grain by products and soy bean hulls as the first ingredients, or close to it. These will make up the vast majority of the product, so in reality, that is really what you are feeding. Typically, once you get to salt or Yeast extract on the ingredient list, that impressive list of vitamins and minerals that follows is just a pre-mixed package that is purchased from an outside ingredient supplier. This may be good or bad, but it is very doubtful that they hand added those ingredients to the formula where the feed was made.
The two things that I would want to know on the runninghorse product is whether or not they also make medicated feeds in the same plant. I would also question the rice bran since it does not say that it is stabilized (there is a definition of "Stabilized Rice Bran" that is legal to use on feed labels). If it is not, it is rancid. This holds true for any feed that uses raw rice bran. If the plant is safe, I guess that I like that product a little better than the one that you have been feeding simply because there is no corn in it.

Why would you even consider a feed that is all waste products from
human food processing or ethanol processing??

The "vegetable" fat content comes from used grease in all of your
fast food deep fryers. Better off to feed horses some French fries.

This is the most honest article I have seen on the waste from
ethanol processing or the cover up name ....
Distillers Grain With Solubles

This is the cut n slide link ..

Why put your horses at risk when it is simple to go all natural ..

Mix Whole oats(12%), 14% sweet feed.. typical 4-6 lbs/day
and add a block of alfalfa (16%)
along with pasture or good hay. and a handful every other
day of a good mineral mix like Moormans GroStrong minerals.

You will end up with a 13% protein feeding program without
any ca/p unbalances and some very heathy shiny horses ..
no other supplements needed ..

and no waste products that no one knows what they are contaminated
with!!

You can never go wrong by keeping your feeding program
as natural and as simple as possible!!

Are you mixing 1/2 and 1/2 oats and sweet feed?
