I came to the decision to sell one of my mares as a broodmare, it was a hard one because I love this mare and want to see her end up in a good place. However, I board, my daughter has started riding and I need something to ride with her so someone has to go and unfortunately it's her the other 2 are like really, really old. I have never sold one as a broodmare what are some things I should do to prep one to sell as a broodie? Between me getting sick and trying to get her sound mystery limp off She hasn't been rode much in the 8 yrs I've owned her. I figure it I get my huey's, louies, and dewey's in a row I will be able to find her the best possible home. If I owned my own place I would keep her myself I'm just not set up to have babies where I'm at, space is limited, and I don't honestly think I can afford to care for 5 horses properly. Thanks in advance and I hope this is allowed.

RE: broodmares
Has she ever had a foal before? If not, I would take her to your vet and have him do a breeding soundness exam and just make sure there are no abnormalities and that she can carry a foal. Some people might be turned off by a βmystery limpβ, but others may not care if enough other things about her match what theyβre looking for. How old is she? How is she bred? Has she ever won or placed in anything, or achieved anything worth noting? Anything that can make her more marketable is good.

Thank you that is on my list of things to do. I'm trying to get an appointment with a vet that works for a breeding farm close to me. If I could figure her limp out I would not let her go at all. When I got sick I couldn't ride for over 2 years because of medication I literally just climbed up there and walked off like she never missed a day. I am going to take her to another vet for her limp as once last ditch effort. She's bred decent but you know everyone likes something different. Thanks again

how is she bred? Bloodlines can really make a difference on one.
