13yo appendix , being treated for ulcers ,1200lbs currently on 20lbs hay , 1.5 nutrena pro force fuel,1oz actiflex, and 1oz cox vet lab ultra growth . Looking to get rid of grain as he is kinda hot, don't have pasture so have to sub with pellets , friends recommended formula 1 noni blue , renew gold , and a ulcer preventative and add hay pellets to make up for pasture , currently haul him 2-3 times a month but runs hard for 2 young girls , would love to keep his energy but get rid of the hot attitude! Thanks

The pro force fuel is not doing your horse any favors ulcer wise. Cut the molasses for sure. Also , in my experience and a few others on here, actiflex caused some cases of ulcers. If you need joint support, go with adequan injection series.

Yes for sure stop feeding the hot feeds.

I'd suggest going with RG with alfalfa or timothy pellets and upping your hay intake.  You aren't feeding at least 2% of body weight as forage.

And would be best to supply the hay in a slow feed hay net so that the stomach doesn't have time to sit around exposed to the stomach acid for a long time.  That bollus of hay sitting in the tummy is the absolute best defense we have as we ride and slosh the acid around to damage the sensitive upper stomach (this is what causes ulcers).

Doing this will drastically improve your horse's hot attitude.

(Always best to get your hay tested and evaluate that your horse is meeting all of their nutrient requirements)

The switch to Renew Gold would be a great option for this horse. Be sure that your horses teeth are up to date. In horses that are on a diet that should not promote the formation of ulcers, but still get them, we almost always find an issue in the mouth that is preventing the horse from chewing as much as they normally would. This, in turn, limits the amount of saliva that they produce which is the horses buffer against damage from stomach acid, no matter what the diet is.

Update! Switched to renew gold , added 1lb Timothy and 1lb teff peletts twice a day , 3/4 lb renew gold , formula 1 noni blue and formula 1 papaya , horses attitude has done a complete 180 , he is way calmer, more attentive, and just better all around .,shiny coat seems happier , does anyone see anything else I should be adding?
