We own 3 7.3 diesels. A 99 F-350, 03 F-250 and an 03 F-250.
All still running strong. 99 has 180,00, 02 has 241,000 and 03 has 185,000.
No major problems and plan on running them till they fall apart.
Now that 7.3 is a sweet sweet engine!! :)  |

6.7 diesel Fords are so far proving themselves to be a very good truck. I personally really like Dodge Cummins, but I hear the new ones aren't as good as the older ones.
We have a 2012 F350 with the 6.7 that we really like. However last month the engine spun a bearing and had to have the motor replaced. Thank goodness it was still under warranty because that bill was $17K. We will be purchasing the extended warranty for it. The 7.3 is also a great motor. Would love to find one with lower miles. |

Loved the 7.3's, just hated pulling up hills loaded in them. The 6.0 was a breath of fresh air for us with the power we needed. As expected, it gave us some issues, so we traded it for the 6.7. Let me tell you what - the 6.7 is a work beast! I personally would not purchase a 6.0, even though I really liked our truck.

Location: South of Canada and North of Mexico | 6.0's had alot of issues from 0-70,000 miles. Run a carfax on it, see what has been done and how many owners it has had. I bought a 2003 6.0 with 120K on it, I LOVED that truck, I sold it with 190,000 and only replaced a few injectors and the EGR thing. I sold it since the 7.3L was paid off and broken - we stuck 6K into it and that wasnt even replacing the turbo that was going out, we traded it off when it left me stranded in MO and we bought it with 118K and sold it with 180K. My husband has a 6.4 and that thing has been great! It has 200K on it almost and it's been a pipeline work truck its whole life, I think total we have about 6K into it for non warranty issues - a little more pricey to replace injectors than the 7.3 or the 6.0 though, but its a beast for sure!! I would not hesitate to buy another 6.0L if it had over 100,000 and a good carfax. It had more power and drove nicer than that stupid 7.3L. |

Location: LOUISIANA | nothing but trouble..i replaced all the injectors several times..had over 5000 worth of work done on it....broke down and bought a dodge...sigh..and yes,,i was a ford fanatic...but this dodge is more powerful ...down side, not as roomy as my ford was.

I've got you beat. I have had as '84 with the 6.9, an '88, a '92, a '96, a '99, an '04 with the first 6.0 and my present '06 with the 6.0 which I imagine will be my last new Ford and probably my last new truck. Ford no longer offers a stick shift and I want no part of the EPA crap they hang on them these days including but not limited to the pee tank.
Hubby has also had a '94 Dodge, a '95 Dodge, a '98 Dodge and his present ,03 Dodge. Apples to apples with gear ratios and manual trannies, I haven't seen all that much difference in them as far as power and I think I get slightly better economy. I did have to have my current truck retuned by a performance shop as it could hardly pull itself down the road on the factory settings. I think that it is beyond stupid that the factory settings do not give you the maximum performance and economy. I have spent enough on the stupid truck, now I have to pay to have it chipped or tuned so it will run better!??! Grrrrrrrr kitty! Started out chipping the '99 when I got it and continued with each Ford after that. Hubby refuses to change the settings in his Dodge.
Actually, I think I liked the old 6.9 the best...and I could actually WORK on it myself. No electronics (or at least far fewer) to go haywire. |
