Grass. Just grass. As much as he wants. He's still a fluffy dirty mess since it's too cold here so no pictures, but he's put on muscle everywhere, his belly looks better, he was shiny (before the winter coat grew in), his hooves have never looked and felt better (he is now barefoot and previously could hardly walk on gravel without front shoes, his soles were so bad). And the pain from his KS is better than it was when he was on supplements that cost me over $100 a month.

It is amazing on how we all feed our horses different and they all look good. It just goes to show us that their is no perfect way to do it. We just have to find what works for each horse.

5 gal bucket Alfalfa cubes 2x a day/ BB Horseman's Elite half scoop 2x a day/ and then regular Platinum.   Cost effective and works!  First pic is 1 month ago when I got her, then every 2 weeks.

Here's Felicia. 2 flakes of alfalfa AM/PM and she gets a coffee can of purina impact SR, and a regional feed called Equis Performance. It's similar to ultimium but I find mine prefer it to Ultima.

Anyone feed just alfalfa and rice bran with unlimited access to grass hay and a good fertilized pasture? Would there need to be a vitamin/mineral added?

Trying a new diet on my mare that tends to get ulcers easy.

Pumpkin Seeds - 1/2 cup
Rice Bran - 1 cup
Beet Pulp (NO MOLASSES) - 1 cup
Alfalfa Pellets - 2 cups
Ground Soybean - 1 cups
Aloe Juice - 1/2 cup
Soybean Oil - 1 cup

My other mare and the Friesian Sporthorse gets a spinoff of this but the get a small soup can of ProAdvantage Grass Balancer.

I'm not saying the ulcer diet is a cure all or anything but I have seen a significant improvement with her. She use to eat a couple bites, drop several pieces (she's just lazy I've had her checked), walk a couple circles in her stall, come back, make a racket with her bucket, and eat. Now she stands with her nose in the bucket the entire time. I could also sneak in her ulcer meds and she never blinked an eye. With the other diet she'd refuse to eat because of the meds. Other diet was all measured with the small soup can. 2 Cup shredded beet pulp, 1 cup proadvantage, and 1 cup corn.

Grass hay or pasture 24/7/365. One flake alfalfa a day 3-5#, 2# of COB (corn, oats & barley) with a basic vitamin mineral supplement. Free choice mineral/selenium salt block & fresh clean water. Pulled him out of his pen took him to get him cleaned up and get pics. After a week this is what he looks like.

I put 20 head on my ulcer diet which included pumpkin seeds and they are doing great. They all had ulcers or suspected ulcers from a toxic hay issue last year. It took a while to get them all detoxed and healthy but has been working so well. I don't feed soy at all because I have one who is very sensitive and I mix in large batches so easier to leave it out.

Thanks for all your help! How long did you keep giving them pumpkin seeds? It's a little pricey around here. I was worried about the soy with her, figured if she didn't respond positively it could go to the cows but she'll eat her grain over fresh grass

I have actually kept them in my ration they are expensive. I am working on a place to buy them and happy to pass that information on to you. I only feed 1-2 ounces a day .
