Location: Gainesville, TX | My sister raises these dogs and has bred a couple champions. Most of hers are toys but a few make the mini mark. She's supposed to have a litter available any day. She has a facebook page. Ridin with Western Aussies. She has a couple merle females and a couple blue eyed tris including a blue eyed male black tri and a blue eyed red tri male. They are sweet dogs. Usually great with families. They do tend to bark a bit.

does anyone have aggressive issues with theirs? MY dog is great he is about a year and a half old. Away from home he is good and gets along with everybody. but if someone new comes to our house he barks and barks, we are out of ideas on what to do. He is barking and looks terrified of the new people he won't even get close to them. Anyone have any ideas on how to help with this? We are so lost on ideas he is actutally at doggy daycare today just to be around new people
mine was getting pretty aggressive when he was two and we got him fixed. It was aggressive with other large-ish dogs especially if they are male. Most of it subsided after that but he's still timid of strangers at home. I think it's something to do with "protecting" the family. I always keep a strict eye on him especially at home when we have lots of people he doesn't always recognize coming in and out. but get him out to a barrel race and he's belly up for anyone that is looking in his direction hoping for some pets!
Most of the other aussie owners I have talked with say theirs is pretty much the same thing. our neighbors have a toy and she's exactly the same but a lot smaller and more aggressive about it. of course nobody takes her seriously though lol :) |

Both mine can be. My blue merle female...that is HER truck. I am HER person...my horses are HERS. And my red tri male, well he doesn't like dogs or people for that matter. I love them both, but wouldn't trust them really. But I also have had mine since they were pups. They way they are socialized from when they are young is important |

Mini - Sammy I tried to make her my new hauling partner, but she liked being home more. She also prefers to be an outside dog.
Standard - Sis - She is an old lady now with very few teeth, but she was my partner in crime for years until I stopped going as much. Now she jsut rules the roost and hangs out.

Location: Oz, Kansas | Here's my girl Zoey. She's very timid & really doesn't care to meet new people. She won't growl or show aggression she will just hide between my legs. That fat dog in the background is her annoying older brother that she nags at every day. We used to take her with us to barrel races but it was just too uncomfortable for her with all the strangers. Her biggest quirk is that she's afraid of the blower on the wood furnace in the garage & I have to go outside & find her to bring her in at night. Which really sucks when the weather is bad.

That is a typical trait of the breed. I have 4 toy and mini aussies. My male doesnt mind new people, he thinks everybody is his friend. However, all 3 of my females dont care for new people at all. The one will settle down in a few minutes, but 2 I have to put up when new people come over and if the "strangers" come in the house, they will just go vacate to the bedroom. 1 has been known to nip at strangers and oddly, she is the smallest and a real lap dog and very lovey to us. They are great away from home, but in their domaign they dont take to strangers at all. I actually am glad about it! Nobody can come here without my knowing it and nobody will get on the property with ill intent. If you want a dog to love everybody, the aussie's typically are not your breed. |

My 2 minis are very protective over me, my house, and my truck. If they are in my truck, you better not reach your hand in, or you will get bit. But that's how I've trained them...I've trained off the their natural protectiveness. I live alone, haul alone a lot. I want that extra security. My male is sketchy when you first meet him, He's standoffish, and if the new person turns to walk, he will go after their heels. That I am trying to break him off. My female knows that unless some stranger is reaching in my truck or pulls up, not to do anything unless I ask her too.

I have a 13 lbs male that is just rotten. He dearly loves me....but has no use for the rest of the world and will bite fingers (or whatever he can get to) if someone gets too close to me quickly. He wasn't well socialized as a young dog. He was about 4 when I rescued him. It took me 3 days to be able to touch him, he probably 9ish? now and I really don't see him changing. We just laugh at him and let him be. He is fixed, he's just extremely protective and distrustful of anyone he doesn't know. He's a mess! The others that I've had are standoffish unless you're one of their people, I do think that's just the breed... He's the only one that is really pretty aggressive. |

Location: Middle of No Where | Here is my little girl "A Calista Gypsy" She was supposed to be a mini but stayed the size of a toy. So animated and full of life but very trainable.

The only non-mini is Stella. She is 1/2 husky and 1/2 standard aussie...
if anyone remembers our search for Hawkeye...she was an 'oops' litter before hawkeye went missing. his owner wanted us to have one of his puppies for all we did trying to find him.
