Location: East Texas | Another post talked about buying expensive horses for kids...... Got me to thinking about how competitive youth rodeo is in different parts of the country. Where is the toughest youth rodeo kids? I know in our association if you want to be in the top 10 you need to be running at least 3D times against the pros, and that is for the 9U division. How about in ya'lls part of the country?

Location: Deep South | Where I live, it varies by the year(s). Sometimes the youth are off the open rodeo times by .5-1 sec, sometimes the same kid winning the youth rodeos is also winning the open rodeos.
I can think of several girls as I was growing up that went through "seasons" where they were just tearing up everybody, open and youth, as little tiny things. |

| I live in the Houston area, we have TYRA and YRA. Our top youth can run at the top of the 1D at any big 400+ show. Our high school region was tough too. My daughter could run a 20.8 in the poles and on a day when everyone was "on" she wouldn't even place. |

Location: My Own Little World | We have peewee kids here that will easily run in the 2D at the Super shows. Our little ones ROCK! And as far as the senior girls, if you want to win it, you had better have a true 1D horse. Pole horses need to be 20 & 21 sec. Breakaway below 5 sec. Goats, below 10 sec. Team roping, below 9 sec |

| Colorado has a VERY tough youth rodeo in the CJRA. The senior girls are true 1D horses, high 19, low 20 second poles, mid 7's to place in goats and 3.5 in breakaway.
Jr girls tend to have faster barrel runs because let's face it... you can't outrun a loose horse. Poles, goats and breakaway is a little softer as far as time go, but not much. The peewee barrel racers are typically only about 1/2 off the jr and sr girls and the pee wee girls are tying goats in the 9's. |
