Extreme Veteran Posts: 413	I recently had rockers put on my horse, my vet recommended them. He has sidebones on both feet and was getting sore in his coffin joints. How long did you wait before running again? I have gotten many different answers so i thought I'd ask here too!

She's been turned out for a year due to other reasons but I'm hoping to bring her back in the spring. My vet told me I could go ahead when she got the shoes but that I would also need to have her on Previcox.

I Will Not Keep Silent Posts: 1922 Location: GA	I'm almost certain Redden recommends that you go through at least one shoeing before adding speed back to the horse. I think it would depend on much rocker you have too. Your vet and farrier could answer it best. Personally I would want my horse evaluated a few times as I put them back to work before I made a run.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 413	Yes, I do plan to run in them. Several people do, with good results. And I have had opinions from vets ranging from 2 weeks to 2 months. I don't know what to believe. we didn't add any more rock to the shoes, than what was there. just changing a little at a time.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 425 Location: Some where between there and here.	My 2 cents after 20 plus years of shoeing. When increasing breakover it really does not matter how quickly you do it ( all at once or over a few shoeings. The ultimate goal is relief. ) I usually judge how much to rock a toe by how thick the hoof wall is at the toe and how I can fit the shoe to the foot so it will help the most. A 45 degree rock is usually just right if it will fit the foot. Sometimes the foot will not hold a 45 degree and you will have to adjust accordingly. Also, the overall build of the horse and how it naturally moves should be considered. Sometimes alot is to much and can cause other issues. If all possible, you want to compliment the horse's stride without giving it the knee action of a peruvian paso. In some cases a simple roll on the toe of the shoe will be all that is needed.
